Some Comments

I agree and I don't think anyone is saying that we won't. I think what people are saying is that we will make an effort to at least look at a minority candidate.

I think it is an issue that will be pushed because Hewitt is the president of the Black Coaches Association.

As for Paul, there wont be mutual interest.

The fact that you can't say why Paul Johnson isn't a legitimate candidate tells me all I need to know. You are full of bunk. The patented Bunger Henry BS alarms are going off all over the place. Next, you'll be talking about how much you bench.

I was talking to a Clemson friend of mine about the fact that Johnson would have been a great fit for them, had Tommy not decided to finally wake up and save his job. He became extremely agitated at the idea of Johnson coming to Tech and began immediately babbling about losses to Delaware and squeakers versus an awful Notre Dame team. I could smell the fear rising off of him like a T-shirt worn for 2 weeks straight and stained with beer sweat.

There's a lot of fear out there about Paul Johnson... and I don't mean from the Tech fans who think he might come here. It's coming from Tech's rivals.

It's like Tony Barnfart today warning, "PLLEEEASE don't fire Chan. PLEEEEEESE!" No rival wants to see Tech shed itself of an albatross and get a good coach.

it's alos a statistical aberration to have so few black coaches in the NCAA. Imagine 15 years ago and there only being 10 or so head basketball coahces who were black. john thomosn was an anomoly and built a powerhouse in DC at georgetown because he was a black man in a white man's world. that's what GT could get, the best black football coach in the country in the mecca for African americans.

could GT get the best white coach in the country? no way but because of racism, prejudice, good ol boy network, etc. GT has the chance to get one of the best coaches in America if they hire a minority simply because the best ones have never been given a chance because of the color of their skin.

Can you imagine a Paul hewitt type guy with better actual coahcing skills recruiting in ATL, South georgia, Orlando, charlotte, etc. ? GT has the chance to change the landscape and build a national power with the right coaching change. And a minority is our best amd maybe only chance to do that.

Ok Bunger, your a joke. I am not going to elaborate why, I don't have to. I said he wont and I stand by it without getting into too much info. If things change in the future I will let you know, right now I feel very confident about what I said. I'm not just making something up, I like Paul and think he is a great coach. He would definitely be someone I would want.

Back to buzzoff Bunger, don't come over here telling me I'm wrong. It is obvious you have no idea.

The last thing we need is Bunger coming by and telling one or our inside sources that he's full of crap. Can you losers crawl back into your hole?

Don't worry, dem. If bunghole thinks you are full of bunk, that means you are a genius.

Just to clarify, I wasn't making a judgment either way - just pointing out that Tech will (and should) consider minority candidates, esp. because of CPH's ties. Regardless of the situation, I just want DRad to evaluate and retain the best coach for the program, whoever that is.

Bunger, why don't you tell us why Paul Johnson is even close to a viable candidate.

Thank you for backing him up, though. Your apparent unpopularity on this board will certainly serve to shore up my arguments against him (like it really matters).

A young coach will not stay at Tech for more than 5 years, period. Either A) he'll do poorly and get run out of town, or B) he'll do well and get hired out of town by a football factory.

If we hire a young coach, we need to all realize that he's a 4 to 5 year stopgap measure, and nothing more. That's simple fact.

I think we are going to look for a young coach. We need the energy in this program. If they do great and get hired away in 5 years, so be it. Hopefully a former QB will be just about ready to get out of Orlando and come take the reigns by that time.

WOW! No offense, but that's quite a leap for Godsey to make in that timeframe. Let's wait till he's about 40 and see what he's accomplished by then.

I do agree with your point about how we can't worry about a successful coach being hired away. If whomever has been that successful here, then we'll have had some good seasons, and we'll be in an even better position to hire another good coach then. Success breeds success.

The same thing applies to all coaches regardless of age.

There may be some truth to that, JT. One of the bonuses to Chan was supposed to be that he was experienced, good, and wasn't going anywhere. Sorta like June Jones. Turns out that's not necessarily the case, per last year's NFL talk, and if it's not the case with Chan, it probably won't be the case with anyone.

I think MaJOR Applewhite is the OC at Bama. I'd love to see Norm Chow with Godsey as his QB coach/OC. We would have our coaches set for the next 25 years at GT.

I don't believe that at all. It's not a certainty. Tech will certainly try to retain a successful coach. Coaches move on from Tech for a couple of reasons: 1) Prestige/alma mater, 2) Money. Sometimes a coach likes to stay at a place where the job security is better and the expectations are lower. Look at GT, we've shown you can be consistently mediocre and we'll even give you an extension and raise.

The next coach will probably have $1.5 million/year contract at Tech. If he is successful that could go up to $2+ million. There are only a handful of schools that could compete at that price range.

There could be 3 or 4 openings this year alone that are paying more than that. Nebraska and A&M for sure, possibly Michigan, all of which beat us on "Prestige" too.

If we fire Chan this year, we will most definitely be making a bold statement that "you can't be mediocre and have job security here," meaning we class ourselves right out of the "job security" hires too.

Think, dude.

You make a very good point. This point was discussed locally when UofH was looking for a coach.

The quality of black coach that we could keep and retain is probably higher than among the white candidates.

I am not too proud to say it could help recruiting as well. It could tip a few recruits our way who have the same attitude as Kellen Winslow did when his kid was recruited.

I agree we should get the best coach, but it is highly likely that "best coach" is not white at this point.

This isn't a bleeding heart liberal attitude; this is a pragmatic self-serving best interest of GT attitude.

demjackets in your honest opinion do you think Jon Tenuta is the front runner to get the job if Gailey is in fact done?
