I would say an ACC Championship appearance and a NY6 bowl apperance warrants an extension. Anything 6+ wins means he can stay another year, but no extension. Anything less means he needs to pack his things and go.
Anything less than 6 and he won’t have to pack his things. They’ll be waiting for him after the final whistle blows (or whatever date his buyout drops to the next tier).

I disagree that frustration with Collins is nothing more than being a CPJ fan. It has to do with three straight losing seasons and some truly epic margin of defeat losses as well as two losses in games that should have been easy wins. At the end of year three it has to do with key players leaving, the staff having to rebuild, and a good recruiting class declining at the end of the cycle. This simply does not engender hope and enthusiasm.

I cannot imagine any Tech fans wanting to fire Collins if he goes 7-5 next year. With only a few rare exceptions, fans simply want Georgia Tech to win and be successful. The number of wins it takes to make some happy varies. I am actually on the lower end - winning seasons keeps me pretty happy, although of course you want to keep striving to win every game and championships.

Collins’ defenders need to stop deflecting criticism with attributing it to Paul Johnson love. It is about performance on the field, pure and simple. CPJ is gone and has been for more than three years now. We all want Collins to succeed as long as he remains the head coach. But, accountability for on the field results determines the overall mood of the fan base.
On target...

So no data on our opponents on why we will lose? Just random unsubstantiated guesses

Under no circumstances does CGC merit an extension. He would first have to make up for the abysmal failure of the first 3 seasons by establishing a record of winning perennially. Any other action would be rote Stansburianism. Incompetence pretending to be right.

3 wins will make most GT fans angry.

So will any amount that keeps him here. The PJ Fan Club will implode if he stays another year :lol2:
The Bobby Ross, George O'Leary, Chan Gailey and Paul Johnson fan clubs will all implode if he stays another year. The second Coming of Bill Lewis is running off fans by the droves, just spoke to a season ticket specialist yesterday who was trying to get me to re-up and he said the re-up for this upcoming season is down 60% from this time last year.

Under TStan, one fluky successful season is good for a three year extension.

Well, we scored 24 ppg and our opponents got about 34. We were in the bottom quarter of our peers in both offense and defense. We threw 10 interceptions and only came up with 3. However, this is the ACC where no one including Duke is ever truly in a hopeless situation. Not having to face Pickett, Armstrong, or that guy at UNC should help. That said, I voted for us to win 4. The first four games will tell the tale. Going 1-3 and the wheels just might come off. Of course, last year we were at one point 3-3 and lost that strange game with UVA. It was all downhill from there.

I picked 6 wins and here's how I see things shaking out, depending on win total

<6 wins: Collins and Stansbury gone. We hire the best G5 coach who will say yes and hope for the best.

6 wins: Collins and Stansbury stay, but at least half the fanbase and quite a few boosters are pissed about it. Tickets will be a tough sell in 2023.

7 wins: Collins and Stansbury stay, and there is broad agreement among fans and boosters that they should, but many will do so grudgingly. Still a challenge to sell tickets, particularly if the uga game is as ugly as the last 5.

8+ wins: Everyone is on board and everyone comes back.

So, 6 wins to keep his job. 8 wins to get all of the pitchforks put away for the moment. He will need back to back winning seasons to create any broad consensus about his future here, though.

Zelnak/Garrett set the bar at minimum of 8 wins for either to remain employed.
I see no reason for further appeasement.

I am aware. I included them in the group that will be disgruntled.

Losing production off a 3 win team that lost 100-0 our last two games. Oh no
The significant likelihood when you rank towards the bottom of FBS in returning production is that you will be worse the following season. We return less production than anyone on our schedule when I last checked. Do you really think we've upgraded our coaching staff that significantly?
