Transfer Portal Tracker

Very interesting article with a lot of insight on how much is being paid out by teams and to players. My summary 1) Duke really spent $4MM on a QB? Duke? 2) What is going on with Texas Tech and their spending spree? 3) Singleton probably got $1MM based on numbers from this article. A hypothetical budget per my analysis from the article. Assuming about 35-40 players play significant snaps - pay 3 of them $1MM per another 15 $300K per and last 20 about $100K per and that is a total budget of $9.5MM. just guessing
Peanuts if you consider you could change the odds in a game through buying off a player or two. See FSU last year for the impact.

Is our management guy that we hired from the Bears working this? If he is this is a great job so far.

In addition to having a good number of our starters back, we have 25 HS recruits + 15 transfers + maybe 10 guys from last year's class that haven't played much yet? That is a lot of intelligently gathered chips to have on hand to fill our needs. Our risks are diversified.

Yes. Yes he is.

Money does nothing to change the sport of football which is that offensive linemen determine how good the offense is and defensive linemen determine how good the defense is. That Key is investing in OLinemen and Duke invested in a QB tells you one team is trying to win while another is trying to excite their fanbase. I wasn’t the biggest Key guy and I am still hoping he grows into his Gameday job, but thankfully Key understands that the Lines are what matter and the skilled positions are replaceable outside of a Calvin, Tebow, or Cam types.

The Miami game was absolute proof that you can have the best hot shot at QB and you will get grinned down if the other team can just push you around, Look at Colorado. They had 2 of their best players in their history at skilled positions and still lost several games because they weren’t built inside out.

A QB is LESS important than an OL?

Disagree

I agree that ol is important but you could just as easily word this a different way:

Look at Colorado. That has a lackluster o-line and still win nine games because they were built around great skill players.

The reality is that most positions in football are important. Investing in a great QB certainly doesn't mean you're not trying to win; in fact, it's an indication you are trying to win. You need both.

Fortunately we were about to keep King (again, no doubt with a big investment) so we were able to focus on OL in the portal as far as offense goes.

In the NFL, sure.

In college, I would argue a complete OL is twice as important as a QB by taking the pressure off. Anyone can look like a Heisman winner with 8 seconds to find an open player, and that's been the case for decades.

A single player doesn't make a complete OL, but building a program for long-term success means building the front line. A QB can be picked up and plugged in pretty quickly these days. A line cannot upgraded the same way with 1 commit.
