Why Brent Key should be HC

Before I’d ever consider Key I‘d ask him 2 questions - 1) who will be your OC (and if mentions anyone on staff he gone), 2) why did you sit by and watch the previous guy destroy your alma maters program (If he gives any other answer other than “I wanted to keep collecting my check” he‘d be gone.

As long as he’s honest that he sat quietly by earning money for his family while the other guy burned it to the ground I can at least understand that. But if he gave any indication that he believed in that guy past the first week of practice then he’d be gone. And I’d have a clause in the contract that he can’t ever talk to an offensive lineman while head coach.

But he’s not going to be hired so this is just fun conjecture.

My first question would be who he would hire to fix his O line.

What ifs - Pyron starts the UVA game, we’re 5-4 (4-2) in the Coastal, instead of 4-5 (3-3).

Miami is a winnable game, not sure about UNC, and doubtful we will defeat the semi-pro team over in Athens.
I’m not starting Pyron for uga game. That would burn his redshirt and whoever plays is gonna be sacked more than this Tennessee quarterback. I’d give that work to Gibson.

How are we going to get OL, DL and LB's to GT? That is the question. We do ok recruiting other positions. The trenches are the most difficult positions to recruit
How? By paying players. Same way our opponents recruit. I don’t know why this is so hard to understand.

GT just beat at team that had a 2-6 record and now some folks want to elevate Key to Head Coach?

IMO, when the team laid an egg against a VERY BEATABLE UVA team, Key lost any chance of becoming the
next HC at GT.

WE can only hope and pray that our new AD makes the next greatest hire in the annals of GT football history, much
like Dr. Homer Rice did when he hired Coach Bobby Ross.

Gahhh. Just stop. Key already failed the audition. Why in the hell would a 1 pt win over a 2-win worst team in the Coastal change anything?

And that makes me no less happy that we won today.

Because we WERE the worst team in the Coastal before Key. We were the other weak programs' confidence-inspiring win.

I don't know, our OL sucks, is that on Key? I have no idea. But we're deep in the öööö and we're playing well with him as our HC, he clearly invests his personal pride into the job, and we are actually winning games. Exactly what is the problem with him? A&M and Michigan State are paying guys $10,000,000 per year to give them Duke-level results. It can get a lot worse.

I’ll give Brent Key the job if he makes a bowl game and he takes a discount so we can hire him some expensive assistants. Yes I know what I said before. I have a hard time not rooting for a Tech guy.

While I know this thread wasn't intended to be very serious, it is an interesting commentary on the state of our program that any win against pretty much any team leaves a decent portion of the fanbase enamored with the coach.

Maybe I'm old school, but I can tell that Key is personally invested in GT football doing well for its own sake. Not for his salary, not for his resume, but because it's something that he, as a man, simply wants to see. In my opinion, that is a huge X-factor over every other candidate. It goes beyond being a 'Tech Man' a la Stansbury. It's deeper.

We’re starved for wins. Brent Key being a Tech guy gives him an edge. Yes we’re idiots.

Now if he loses next week we’re all back on the fire Brent Key train.

I like key and appreciate what he has done but I don't think he is the one that will get us out of the hole we are in. He would probably get us to a bowl next year but probably max out at 6-8 wins after that. He has the players playing hard but that will only take you so far. I'm not sure he will be able to recruit the players or coach up the players he does get enough to get us much better than average. If he is hired, I hope I'm wrong
