ESPN has known about the story for 10 days

I can tell this situation is about to die out when Manti goes on his sob story about how he was tricked. The details will never emerge.
I feel pretty bad for laughing at this, but...
öööö, they could've come out with it right before the BCS Championship Game. That would've been good.
Gotta count on ESPN being too journalisticly-butthurt to let it die without uncovering the details.
They interviewed Gene Wojasaofkjl;ski on ESPN and he sounded pretty mad that he fell for it and clearly didn't vet certain details prior to his interview with Teo.
Said he asked for pics and the family preferred not to provide them. He looked for an obit. or proof of the car accident, but didn't find anything and just blew it off.
I heard this too, but I'm confused. I thought she died of leukemia?

I can't believe no one at espn ever fact-checked his story. .

Here's my theory:
He didn't feel comfortable being a gay football player for ND, so he pulled the whole "fake gf from another school" thing. Maybe his buddy Tuiasosopo (who supposedly started the twitter account and got the "face" of Lennay from a girl he knew in HS) was/is his gay partner. Maybe he's just an accomplice. But he helped perpetuate this fake gf to give Te'o a cover throughout college.
They realized they couldn't keep it up forever, so "Lannay" needed an end. That's when the leukemia/car accident came into play. They hoped the story would get buried with Lannay. Deadspin called him out. Now it's a matter of who else was part of the coverup. His dad? His teammates? The school?
Here's what I think happens next: He finally fesses up to it all, but also comes out. If he is gay, and he was smart about it, he'd play the "it's so tough being gay on a college football team" sympathy card.
