How have the last couple of years gone, huh? Look at QB quality with CMR at fsu and then (the decade you reference) when he left? The Nole Nation thought he was an under achiever. What does the dwag nation think? (and not just the trailer trash).
I'm really confused and can't tell if you are arguing Richt is good or bad. I hate to do it, cause it seems like I'm sucking Richt's dick when I'm not, but you are crazy if you don't think he's a good coach. We may hate the guy but its hard to say he isn't one of the best coaches in the country. His career record (all at uga) is 135-48. That's nearly averaging 10 wins a season in the SEC over a 14 year period, doing so 8 times.
Our PROGRAM has four 10 win seasons since 1956, and just nine, ever. That's right. Richt has one less 10 win season than our entire football program. Sure, we played less games way back when, but you are stupid if you aren't impressed by those numbers.
Richt also has 2 SEC titles and another four division titles.
At FSU (QB coach from 1990-93 and OC from 1994-2000), he had equal success.
Analysis of QBs seems to be the most fitting, since that's your criticism. Richt coached, in order, Charlie Ward, Danny Kanell, Thad Busby, Chris Weinke. After Richt left it was Chris Rix, Wyatt Sexton, Drew Weatherford, and Xavier Lee. Ponder was basically there a decade after Richt left. I may be missing someone, but I'm not gonna spend a lot of time on it.
So let's go one by one:
Charlie Ward won the Heisman and a National Championship. He's got the second largest Heisman margin of victory ever. Career stats were 62.3% completion rate, 5,747 yards, 49 TDs, and just 22 interceptions. Also ran for 889 yards on 172 carries. He's in the Florida State hall of fame and had his numbe retired, but played pro basketball.
Danny Kannell was an honorable mention All American as a senior. Career stats were 62.2% completion percentage, 6,372 yards, 57 TDs (at the time a school record), and just 26 interceptions. He's in the Florida State hall of fame, 4th round NFL pick.
Chris Weinke won the Heisman and a National Championship, and also lost a National Championship game as a Senior (FSU also lost the Nat'l Champ when he was a sophomore, but was hurt for the last few games). Weinke's career numbers are insance - 58.7% completion, 9,839 yards, 79 TDs, and just 32 picks. He's in the Florida State hall of fame and had his number retired, 4th round NFL pick.
Those three were all Richt.
Chris Rix was recruited by Richt. His numbers are really solid, but he had a relatively bad TD:INT ratio (63:40) and low completion percentage (55.2%). Whereas FSU had gone to three straight national championships with Richt as OC, FSU lost 4 games in 01, 5 games in 02 (including to Richt's uga team in the Sugar Bowl), 3 games in 03, and 3 games in 04.
Despite starting four years at FSU, Rix wasn't drafted in the NFL.
Wyatt Sexton - Played 2 years. 8 TDs, 8 INTs, and 1700 yards. I think he had a medical issue, but regardless didn't make the NFL.
Drew Weatherford - Played 3 years, but like Rix got benched as a Senior. 39 TDs, 32 INTs. Didn't make the NFL.
Xavier Lee - Threw 15 TDs and 11 Picks, barely completed over 15% of his passes. Made the NFL, but as a WR.
Now about this time Jimbo Fisher comes in, so if your point was that Richt is around as good as Jimbo Fisher, I'm not sure that really helps your point.
