Godsey/Key Co-OC’s

I loved Godsey the player (TIAR and all) but his resume is pretty thin IMHO. I want a Top 5 FCS OC. Find me a Gus Malzahn dude laboring away in obscurity. Or that football coach that never punts or whatever. Give me the juice!

Seriously?

George08 coached in Atlanta and Orlando schools, and grew up in Tampa. He coached under Belichick, among others, and was quarterback coach for two NFL teams, and has coached running backs and tight ends along the way. He knows football, and has plenty of contacts. I'm okay with a coach with contacts in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and Boston.

He was the Texans OC as well.

What the last two posters just said. Goose is not just a tech man hire, he’s a HC in waiting. Please hire him.

Seriously. (a) He hasn't coached in college in almost a decade. (b) His progression in the NFL has not been smooth. He went from being the OC in Houston to being a defensive assistant in Detroit, and now he's a quarterbacks coach. I'd rather have someone with a track record of success as an OC, regardless whether that's in the NFL or FBS or FCS. But having complete responsibility for all phases of the offense, play calling, etc. – and having success at it – seems like a prerequisite for the job to me.

Some of you guys crack me up. In a week you’re going to be complaining about the NFL credentials and recruiting history of the graduate assistants. I know you’re engineers, but do you have to complain about everything?

I’d love to have Godsey back.

Johnson is gone. Get over it.

Johnson will be gone. Get over it.

It has nothing to do with Johnson. Why would we want to hire someone who has been unsuccessful at previous jobs and has since been relegated to a lower position? If Godsey hadn't played at GT, would you be even remotely interested? Hell no.

But he did play at GT and ran an exciting offense. He’s beaten UGA several times. And he understands GT recruiting.

Maybe if Collins brings back Sewak to coach the OL then you’ll be happy? Or maybe Al Groh to be the DC?

That was Friedgen's offense, not his.

As a coach?

Only relevant thing you listed, and even that's a stretch.

It's pretty sad that you're still butthurt about those guys.

When was the last time Godsey was even on campus? GT has changed tremendously in the past 15 or so years

Consultants to CFB programs are not new, Broyles (as AD ) hired Danny Ford as consultant after Kenny Hatfield left the Razorback program in shambles (flexbone) and Frank did not have enough descent players to get a good qualified HC, so he promoted an assistant and let Danny consult. He later hired Danny to be head coach after Danny's payout from Clemson was done. I like the idea of O'L and "fridge" consulting in our case, they're not ever going to coach again IMO.
Bro, Ken Hatfield was the winningest coach in Arkansas history. Four top 15 finishes in six years. Your not-so-subtle shot at the flexbone missed the mark pretty badly.

Also, FWIW, Danny Ford had a losing record at Arkansas, only made one bowl during his tenure, and was never ranked at any point during any season. Not the best precedent to follow.

So the QB in a multiple look offense that had enormous success doesn’t understand how to implement that offense as a coach? Your love for Sewak and Al Groh continues to amaze me.

As a coach?
See above

Bring back Sewak then. He was a great recruiter

It's pretty sad that you're still butthurt about those guys.
It’s pretty sad that your love for things non-GT is going to make you look like an idiot when Godsey is successful

Where are you getting any of this? Those guys are gone for a reason and nobody wants them back.

Why don't you go back to wherever you went in 2014 when we were winning and nobody wanted to hear your bitching?

I'd love for Godsey to be successful at GT, and I'm not saying he's a bad coach. I'm just saying "played football at GT and did real good" is not relevant to a coaching resume, and his actual resume is not exciting. He seems to be a better fit for the NFL than college anyway.

I think we need an OC that understands offensive football. GC will provide the vision. The OC will design and install and tweak and keep modern. Godsey fits the bill. It is not important Godsey went to GT. It is important that we get an OC smart enough to go to GT.

We don't need Henry Winkler from Waterboy drawing genius plays. We need a knowledgeable OC who can adapt and adjust.

GG's pro background is a plus, in that GC can make the argument that coming here will give the offensive recruits a leg up on the NFL. This is particularly true with a quarterback, and this is our biggest team need right now (and forever.)

I dunno if George08 can recruit, but I will bet he would recruit at least as well as Jon Tenuta, and we did not suffer as a team from Jon being our coordinator.
