Yates: Ride or Die...for now

You sound like you need to decide which side of the fence you are on. Either you think Yates has earned the position or you think Sims should go back in, which is it? It sounds like you are strongly in favor of pulling Yates and starting Sims.
Nope

I said more than once that Yates has earned his PT, but I don't think it is fair to go back and and kick Sims for no reason after having a bad qtr of FB

QBs miss on deep passes, that's why the TEAM has to play well in all phases of the game

Those missed passes by Sims in the 1st Qtr don't cause a loss if we execute on STs and on Defense and if we could just run the ball better, but we have the kind of fanbase that only looks at the QB and the coordinators instead of looking at the FB game

It isn't like we haven't seen Sims play before the NIU game. 13 TD's and 13 INT's in 10 games with a few fumbles sprinkled in, versus 5 TD's and 0 INT's through 3 games including one of the tougher defenses we'll see this year. This isn't rocket surgery.

We get it. You don't want to see Sims playing at GT any longer. Give it a rest already.

And you're butthurt because Yates is having a good season thus far. I don't get it, why can't you be happy we have a quarterback who completes over 60% of his passes and doesn't throw as many INT's as TD's? It is like you guys are fixated on who had the most stars as a high school recruit. Are we still impressed because someone was recruited by FSU??

I find it funny when someone offers an opinion of something that can’t be proven and then says he guarantees it.

Yates earned his spot. Do I think he is a next level QB? Nope. A next level QB is bigger, stronger, faster, with a better arm. I guess you'll be OK with playing teams close this season and almost winning. Go you!

It’s crazy isn’t it? A lot of us here think that Yates has earned the PT and is doing well. I also think that if he has a ööööty game, he should get yanked in favor of Sims (since that’s basically what we did to Sims). And then if Sims is hot, he plays until he isn’t.

Why do you think Yates deserves to be benched? I think if you bench Yates solely to give Sims a chance you are sending the entire team the wrong message.
There’s already too much “playing my guy instead of yours” that transpired during this transition. It set us back navigating the hugeliest transformation in the history of the world. You just absolutely do not bench a winner for a guy that stumbles every chance he gets.

Yates’s decision-making made me feel comfortable. When Sims has the ball I am curious as to what the hell is going to happen.

This.

First thing you need out of a QB is smart decision making and ball protection. Yates has it. Several times yesterday, I saw Yates throw passes out of bounds when there simply wasn't anything there. Sims would have tried to force those same passes and they would be INTs.

This feels like almost a political discussion, in that it's not really about the guys, it's about what they represent and what each fan values.

Yates: Better chance to win now, less mistakes, but "lower ceiling", we already pretty much know what we have.
Sims: Turnover machine, could lay an egg just as likely as lead us to 40+. Don't know what we have, the range of possibilities stretches across the "Yates baseline" from worse to better.

I guess I'm down for one more Yates start, against a not-top-5 defense, and against a not-FCS defense, to see what he's got. Otherwise, I'd prefer going for the possibility of a dynamic offense, even if that comes with the risk of sucking again (still?) with Sims...

Actually with Yates what they like is the way we played yesterday, milking the clock on offense playing ultra conservative, throwing underneath, throwing most passes outside the numbers and playing to stay close and lose respectable (BTW those same Fans hated when Gailey played like that but they love it now if it means we get to Play Yates at QB rather than Sims)

Fans like that refuse to have higher expectations for all 11 guys in the game and are happy with losing close, but that only works if your Defense is lights out and or the opposing Offense is weak

This week is the real test Virginia was playing well and UNC put 59 points on them, we might find out what happens if we can't milk clock on offense to keep the game close then what

If you can't see that Yates plays better at the position, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yates plays like a QB. Sims plays like an experiment.

Also Sims would have been good for two INTs and maybe a fumble.
Two int's & a fumble? You are wasting you're fortune telling talents on a football game, you need to go bigger !!

I’m as big of a sims fan as anyone and I don’t think that a bad half of football to open the season should lose him the starting job he earned over the offseason.

but I also don’t think you can pull Yates now given that he has come in for injury and played well. If Yates has a bad few series, I’d look for a quick hook to get Sims back in with a chance to secure the job.

One bad half of football? He has a cumulative body of work 1:1 TD to Interception ratio with 6 fumbles last season and to start this season he went 2/8 passing and a fumble.

Was wondering if anyone else had the same thoughts late in the game yesterday but when we needed to move down the field at a pretty quick pace and Yates’ lack of a deep threat, I was kinda looking for Sims to come in. I thought maybe he would give us that shot better than Yates. Yes it would have been a crappy move but Sims has better tools for that situation.

This isn’t “political” at all. Just would prefer to see the guy who gives us the best chance to win. And that is clearly Yates, IMO.

Sims is a really bad QB. Definitely the worst in the ACC. Probably one of the worst in the FBS. His passing is terrible. Fumbles far too often. Poor decision making. He would never play another down for us. Please use the transfer portal now. Yates has been great.
