No, you're not lying, but you are making things up for fun and internet giggles. Enjoy...
You are the absolute StinGTalk master of telling folks they are wrong/dumb/blind/etc. without offering any substance whatsoever to the discussion unless coming up with 87 different ways to discount/belittle/scoff at everyone else's opinions/thoughts counts as a contribution.

Great player (whose coach left BTW) transfers from perennial cellar dweller to national champion… and ST’s only explanation is a monetary payment I’ve seen zero proof of.

One of the worst things about modern culture is that cynicism got mistaken for wisdom.

my guess is just as accurate as your guess. I do not begrudge him for doing it. I see and hear no positive tech NLI information. He was being seen, being heard of. Money is just as likely a scenario as any other.

let me add… Kenny Anderson left for the money. Favors left for the money…etc etc

Goodness buddy.

Do you believe everything you read in anonymous internet reports or just the things that confirm your preexisting biases?
So you’re saying this is all some major conspiracy and that none of these players are bagging millions of dollars?

Yes
As I said I’ll believe players are getting thousands even tens of thousands. But I need proof before I think an unproven HS kid received what was essentially a gift of seven figures to play football at A&M.

By the way, wasn't NIL supposed to be handled after the recruiting process has concluded, i.e. it is not a part of recruiting a player? That rule does not seem to be followed, like so many.

Also weren't players supposed to enter the Portal BEFORE they are in contact with other schools? That rule doesn't seem to be followed either.

That’s very poor reasoning. “For all we know” he’s being controlled by aliens. The money that NBA stars get is publicly available and paid by people with a profit motive. The boosters you speculate gave Gibbs money are making donative no strings attached gifts. I don’t know if he has some NIL in the works but it’ll be a modest amount if there is.

Another point, all issues need to be put on the table. For example, why is there a four year eligibility period. This is discrimination against late bloomers! Look at Wake, older team this year and they competed. When Bama sends kids to the NFL they replace with new young, and now rich players. Counter that with 25 year olds.
The four seasons of participation makes sense. The five or possibly six year clock does not make sense. I can see some logic to limiting financial assistance to six years. The participation clock should be eliminated. These will be rare occurrences.

Feel free to ignore me I guess? But people making up stuff that flies in the face of reason and experience does require proof before I’ll believe it.

Because people on ST hate nuance let me try to hammer it in again… I’m willing to accept boosters are giving out Trans Ams but not Gulfstreams.

Has it really changed things? Schools with rich boosters that were paying players under the table are now doing so in an organized and public way — and looking for ways to market their spend publically to draw more recruits in the future vs. covering things up to stay off the ncaa radar.
Biggest difference now is that schools are creating organized, legit ways for all donors, including those that maybe weren't in the inside circle, or those that weren't comfortable doing things under the table. The amount of donors that can now feel like they are buying players has increased substantially...

That isn't what is being debated. The effect of NIL on college football is the discussion. To this point, it seems you think it doesn't really change anything. If so, I'm struggling to understand the basis for that.

I've already stated this. There are aspects to NIL that would be net positives for Tech, many of which I've already alluded to in this thread. There are other apects that would be net negatives. And there are lots of reasons to think it won't have much of an affect at all. Time will tell.

This is an interesting conversation and full of reactions and opinions. In reality when change especially significant change is introduced to most anything reactions vary. Emotions vary. This one is simple as I see it. Some fans will stay and adapt and support and pay the freight. Others will drift away. My opinion is that many old timers will drift away. Some already have and a TV is about as close as they will get going forward. I fall in this camp ( let the arrows fly). Outside of GTs recent performance college football just is not as fun anymore. I have not watched a bowl game all year and only small bits of playoffs. This from someone who has averaged 8-9 in person games a year for past 15 years.

Definitely agree with this. Many people think that the special "feel" of college football has been lost. This is reflected in everything from debates about band vs. PA, to security lines, to player transfers, to the politicization of players, etc. etc. I definitely feel my own enthusiasm shrinking. (Though of course the fact we've been so bad for a while now also plays a big role in it.)

As the numbers grow, it will be interesting to see what happens when more and more kids take the early money and then leave. Since it's "not through the Athletics Dept", will we find 19 year old athletes disappearing?
Which brings up the fact that there seems to be a slew of new athletic supporters actively working with these athletes. Isn't things like betting on games going to be an issue?

I suspect ya'll are in the older category. I am too. I go to games to enjoy the college environment. I purposely sit close enough to the student section (north) to enjoy the Band, The Swarm, The Ramblin Wreck Club, cheerleaders, etc.
Unfortunately, the babyboomers are getting long in the tooth and they have to find new fans. I hate the piped in loud music and how it takes away from the band, but apparently young people want that stuff...So the "college experience" seems to be disappearing.
But I took these last two posts as more about disliking the professionalism that is in play. In the old days, we celebrated a recruit when choosing our family. Once in, they were always a part of our family. Today, with all the transfers it's more like a pro team...the college experience is in fact ending and ending quickly. It's not just loud stupid music over the speaker system.

It's the possibility of students taking money and then leaving – or getting hurt or not panning out or what-have-you – that will prevent NIL from becoming the behemoth some think it will. Boosters aren't dumb, and they're not give away millions to an 18 y.o. who may do nothing for the team. Some folks are rich enough to take a gamble with $50k, sure. But they're not going to gamble with millions (particularly when there's no monetary upside to the risk).

…I really don't know if I will even be watching college football in 3-4 seasons, let alone buying GT season tickets. I have been a ST holder for decades, but now it looks like we ded….

I echo these sentiments. Since ‘95, I have either gone to three home games a year or had season tickets. Over the last couple of years I have watched fewer and fewer college football games. I watched parts of a dozen bowl games this holiday season but none from start-to-finish, including both CFP semis.

I may not up my season tickets next year. No doubt I tell myself, ‘GT65, would you feel differently if 3/3/3 W’s over the last three seasons were more like 3/5/7?’ Perhaps I would, but I think my apathy goes beyond GT’s lack of success. Even during the early Curry years, B*** L****, and the early Ross years I still had that emotional tie to GT football and watched any and every college football game that was on TV. This is no longer the case.

With NIL and, really for the first time, researching the differences in revenue gross/net for all P5 football teams, I realize that $$$ has changed the game for the worse -likely forever. The divide will continue to widen between the $$$$$/$$$$ programs and the $$$/$$/$ programs.

If you can believe that Gibbs could be a Heisman candidate then certainly you can believe he's looking at a $1M payday at a school like Bama. (I do believe that Gibbs is a Heisman Candidate and thought I'd help by carrying a sign at ND who get a lot of press. I even left it for everyone to see at the entry gates. I feel so used...:fingersx:)
