People thinking Taisun will take snaps away from Sims are only seeing "clemson" and thinking he is more than he is (at least at this point.)
Also seeing 5 star, compared to Lamar Jackson, and was projected to start last year at Clemson until he was injured.

Don’t think he was ever projected to start. DJ U was a backup to sunshine in 2020, and looked very good when he started a few games. He was also a top 5 national recruit.

TP was also a 4 star.

not a 5 star and wasn't projected to start over DJ.

Well, he was in 2020, I'm not sure about 2021.

Now that Chase Brice has moved on to Duke, Phommachanh knows there is an opportunity to put himself in position to be the Tigers’ backup quarterback behind All-ACC quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He spent the nine days Clemson was able to practice this spring fighting off true freshman D.J. Uiagalelei, who enrolled in January.

Uiagalelei was the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall prospect in the nation coming out of high school this past season. However, Swinney said last Friday that Phommachanh would be the Tigers’ No. 2 quarterback if the season was to start today.

He is not Lawrence or Uiagalelei, but Phommachanh has his own unique qualities | The Clemson Insider

My fault, 4*, but 4th best dual threat QB in his class, while sims, if I remember right, was 20 something

On 247 Sims was 10th, with a 0.9169 rating. Phommachanh was 4th with a 0.9156 rating; so basically flip a coin. However, I'm going to take a wild guess that Phommachanh has had better training and coaching the past 3 years.

Sims has to get better with his decision-making. He is his own worst enemy sometimes. The game needs to either slow down for him or he needs to pick it up faster. I hope Chip and Chris can be the difference for him, I really do.

Say what you will about CGC, but it does seem a little crazy to me that we are discussing a QB competition at Georgia Tech between a former #10 prospect and a #4 prospect.

Probably because we aren't. We are talking about #4 and #10 dual threat QB's, not even overall QB's; much less the overall prospects.

Oh, so they weren't very highly regarded QB prospects coming out of HS. Got it. What was Dabo even thinking?

Well they definitely weren't the #4 and #10 overall players in the nation. Dabo was thinking about Ukulele. What was Willie Taggart thinking?

I hope Sims can have a banner year although the stats the OP threw out would make for a banner season indeed.

I think the thing Sims has to improve the most on isn't just decision-making, it's ball placement on the easy throws. I remember way too many passes into the flat or screen passes where a back or receiver was open with nobody within yards and he threw it at his feet or over his head. Those gimmes have to be gimmes.

And unlike in prior seasons where we probably didn't want him to run because of a lack of quality QB backups, I would hope they tell him this year to run his progressions quickly and, if there is nothing there, tuck it and go...make something positive happen with your legs. If he can do that, it will open up some big plays downfield. And he does seem to throw a nice deep ball.

Sims and Weinke when he was at FSU (1997-2000) have very similar Alpha, strong zip level throwing motions.
