O’Leary was a very successful coordinator with NFL coaching on his resume. Key doesn’t have that and in fact, his one year of being OC was awful and bothers me. Especially given that is tenure at GT included his year includes awful offensive production.
George O'Leary was DL for the Chargers under Ross. He did not have NFL DC experience until he left GT with Vikings years later.

The comparison to O'Leary is silly. He and his staff were born out of Ross', and both of them were so ööööing loaded with coaching ability that recent comparisons can only be found at the top of the factory food chain. Some of Saban's staffs, maybe Mac Brown's at Texas and Carroll at USC in the 00s.
It is was not accident that we had such good coaching during this period. Ross and O'Leary did an excellent job of identifying, attracting, and developing coaching talent. Key is very much from the Ross / O'Leary coaching tree.

O'Leary still had critical pieces from that staff while they were at their best. I guess my point is that O'Leary can easily be seen as a continuation of what Ross started. But he has been gone 20 years now and I don't think it's fair to expect that Key can do now what O'Leary did then.

It's a class act for players to show support for their head coach, and I'm glad our athletes are speaking up in support of Key. But I'm pretty sure they will be supportive of the next guy, too, as long as we don't hire some out-of-touch jerk.

I can get on board with the "Hire Brent Key" mantra if he coaches the team to a COFH upset Saturday. A loss and he should not get a look, UNC is not a very good team, they are overrated....our teams performance against UVA, FSU, Miami just was not good.... Five wins for me should signal that it is time for Jamey Chadwell to build a program on the flats!

I'm not saying we should hire Brent Key; but the fonts that keep saying he shouldn't be considered or even given a look are dumbasses. Batt should be looking at all the options. If Chadwell or whomever the chosen one is wants a CGC type contract before they will sign, then move on to the next option....which could end up being Brent Key.

At least your bar is low enough that no SEC coach would qualify for our job.

Johnson at Navy had a more impressive record than Chadwell at CCU though.
Not sure about that. Chadwell has a 66.1% win percentage at CCU and is on pace for his 3rd 11 win season in a row, CPJ was 60.8% at Navy, less if you only count the first 5 years to match Chadwell's 5 years, and only had one 10 win season during his time there.

If he beats the defending champion #1 team in the nation, which Saban with a team full of the best players in the nation couldn’t, then he’s hired. But if not he’s fired.
Great rationale there pal. #idiot

I want Brent Key but only if he hires Ken Niumatalolo as OC.

CPJ had wins over Duke, @Pitt, and @ND in 2007; @Stanford @UConn and @Duke in 2006; Duke, Tulane and Colorado State in 2005. That is a good list of P5 and FBS school wins with an academy roster.

CJC had wins over GaSouthern, @GSU, Appalacian State in 2022; Kansas, Troy, Appalacian State, NIU in 2021; @Kansas, BYU, GSU, @GSU, in COVID year 2020. The one signature win was over BYU in the COVID year.

Winning percentage is a poor stat to look at since CPJ was losing to Rutgers, Wake Forest and Utah; while CJC was losing to Old Dominion (49-21 :coolugh:).

One thing I've noticed is that while CJC has an exciting offense, it looks like his defense blows chunks like CPJ's did, even in his wins this season the losing teams seem to be putting up a lot of points. I am kinda hoping if we hire Chadwell we keep our DC.

Everyone except Pitt and ND would’ve lost to Georgia Southern, App St, NIU, etc.
