Yeah, that argument doesn’t make sense to me. We should want to hire a coach that other, better programs want to poach. It means we’re winning ball games.
 
Hiring Fritz would be a really low blow to CBK.
I'd rather build a respectable and competitive program with a lunch pail coach who bleeds white and gold, and has nothing but upside (and time) based on what we've seen so far.
 
Willie Fritz is the only name I've heard recently who would be even worse than Key. He's way too old. And would you have hired him last year after he went 2-10???

Mullen comes with a huge price. That means it will depend in the money guys. Seems like many here want their money but for them to shut up and watch. That’s not the way it works.

I completely agree, just thinking of the upside to that situation. Auburn tried to poach O'Leary in 1998 after they fired tater tot and we were able to lock him up with a long term deal. If the rumors are true that Chadwell may be holding out for big bigger schools, we don't need him here with one eye on the exit.

That only makes sense if going away from his offense would be super hard. Probably wouldn’t be.

I mean, only 4 years ago when we were looking for a coach post Johnson, Fritz was a top name amongst a lot of this board. Not a big difference in 4 years in terms of age.

Note that I said "everywhere else, " i.e. other than Tulane. Take a look at his entire career. That said, there is an argument to be made that his record at Tulane could be considered successful given their history and resources. He's not my choice, but I don't think it would be such a terrible/unthinkable hire that many are predicting and we could definitely do (and have done) much worse. If nothing else, he could stabilize the program and make it much more appealing when he retires in 5-7 years. Likely at a decent salary with a limited buyout.

I mean people consider Matt Rhule to be a major success at the college level, and he's a career .500 coach (roughly, I don't know his record off-hand). People consider Rhule a success because he inherits trainwrecks and gets them winning and winning quickly. He gets them back to winning, though his record still bears those 1-11 and 3-9s of inheriting lousy teams.

Long story short, I guess in this rambling what I'm saying is I agree with your assessment on Fritz. But personally, it's a no from me.
