It's Orange Bowl or nothing

Isn't this what the waiver is for? This scenario isn't anything new I believe. The waiver pulls us out of the "pools" and allows GT to be normally selected to a bowl. Did I miss something?

That's what I'm thinking.

I can't imagine the ACC/NCAA would let us lose in the ACCCG and then not go to a bowl. Again, it's stupid that one game could mean the difference between a BCS bowl and no bowl.

Yes, you missed where the NCAA changed the rules after UCLA got their waiver last year. The rules were changed to send a big "---- you" to teams like us that go into their conference championship game at 6-6 against a much better team. Last year, we would be looking at no worse than the Sun Bowl right now. Instead, it's BCS bowl or bust.

It is stupid, but that appears to be the case. If you check on the college football standings on ESPN, they have * besides every school that's bowl eligible and an X by every school that's ineligible. We're right there with current 5-6 teams that have nothing beside their name because our bowl eligibility is still up in the air.

Uh, maybe cause FSU is 10-2 and we are 6-6?

I was talking about the # of teams... If we win then 2 teams are going to a bowl, if we lose 1 team is going to a bowl... doesn't that make for an even/odd # of teams in one of those scenarios?

It just means that someone else will be going bowling instead of us. There are already enough bowl eligible teams.

Why would we apply for a waiver then? Even Dinich said we applied for a waiver to be considered in their main pool of teams. I know she's not the most reliable source, but she's paid to do her research on things like this.

I am as big a tech fan as there is. That said, I don't want this team in the orange bowl. This will be the first time that I have ever pulled against Tech. They don't deserve to go to any bowl. Acc is bad enough. We don't need a terrible tech team representing our conference in a bowl like that. I know UGA has a good team but our defense looked like they should be playing in the band or maybe cheerleader. We are suppose to hate them.

America's Crappiest Conference deserves a crappy champion and we're just the crappy team to do it!

Wait, you are "as big a Tech fan as there is" and you are going to be rooting against Tech in the ACC championship game?

Are you 60 and hark back to the days of old when going to bowls meant something more than it means today?

If Tech doesn't deserve to go to a bowl I guess all 6-6 teams do not deserve to go to a bowl. But based on the way the bowls are setup - they actually do deserve to go to a bowl.

Bowls are big for the kids playing the game. They go to a city where they are treated well for a few days and even get free swag.

So Tech does deserve to go to a bowl and should.

You're wrong. Tech doesn't deserve a bowl game. I'm a firm believer of you get what you deserve and we don't deserve it. You wanna go to a bowl? Earn your keep and win you ball games. Don't get boat raced at home games and win the games you should I don't ask for handouts and that what this feels like. I don't want my team and my school taking hand me downs. That's what ACCCCG is and ill be there supporting my team in Charlotte but make no mistake about it. Win that game then accept whatever bowl is handed out. Lose that game. Too freaking bad. Win your games and have a better record than below .500

I believe this is because we haven't formally filed the waiver yet. No reason to do so unless we lose the ACCCG. Unless people are saying there is no waiver.

Tech deserves to go as much as any other 6-6 team. It would actually probably be better if a team needed a decent record to go, but that's not the case. Teams that are plainly far worse than us are going already.

As far as the waiver, everything points to how the NCAA got rid of the waiver after UCLA. The current rules do talk about waivers for schools playing non-qualifying FCS teams and for conference champions with losing records, but not for 6-7 teams.

Can we "decline" our appearance in the title game? Is that even possible? If so I'd prefer to do that so we can ensure going to a bowl instead of rolling the dice against FSU as 2 TD underdogs.
