Surprised at this. He has been successful at a place that is hard to be successful.

I imagine this new era of CFB is not something Wake, nor Clawson, has any desire to participate in. WF has a decision to make if they want to be relevant in this new era of CFB. It will require $. Monken might be the best choice for them.

Monken doesn't have to deal with NIL or transfer portal really, so why would he leave? Those things killed another career in Clawson. Monken isn't an idiot, but he's also a man who rises to the challenge so who knows. The article about his decision on ESPN website was a good one. Sometimes I wish football fans would take a 1 year challenge of no football. As much money that is going around in football these days, so many have got to be living from paycheck to paycheck. If we stopped those paychecks for a year, I'd bet they'd fix this crap in a hurry. Of course that means committing the sacrilegious sin of not supporting one's school for a year, but sometimes the poison is the cure.

Ignore my above post. My phone screen is broken. Yeah, Clawson's strength has always been developing unheralded recruits into good players. Now, those players get poached as soon as they get good enough to be noticed. Wake could probably step up on money somewhat, but without a strong football brand, I think it will be tough for them to keep up. So, an "unconventional" scheme might be something to consider.

He does have to deal with the transfer portal out - see Kanye Udoh - but there is a huge hurdle for those kids who leave after a certain amount of time. I think it's if you leave after your junior year, you're on the hook for paying the government back for the education.

Monken is revered at West Point but I think he'd also like a shot at a big time program. When the superintendent of West Point went to be the president of South Carolina, Monken let it be known that he would not necessarily bring the option with him if he were the coach. He's got enough contacts/connections he could run a more open offense with a new OC and take on more of the CEO role of coach.

Ken Niumatalolo being successful at San Jose State running a different offence might help Monken because it shows that those coaches can win without being married to the option.
