I feel like this is an attitude we have to fight against. The problem with viewing supporting your team (financially, in the stands, etc) as a product is you come to view it the same as going to a particular restaurant (not really something to build passion about). "Products" also get discontinued. "Businesses" close down. Would you approve of Georgia Tech football going out of business if we get bad enough?
I'm not really sure how you fight against that. Ultimately, as long as money is in play, people are going to make decisions on what to do with theirs. It's just a reality that more people are going to be incentivized to spend time and money on Tech football if they see it as a rewarding experience, and vice versa.
I know there's a chicken-and-egg argument to be made here, but does anyone really think any of these teams that pack their stadiums would be doing so if they had several consecutive losing seasons? Because you can pretty much look at any losing program and see the empty seats on gameday, regardless of what attendance numbers they may be reporting. That may not be quite as evident at SEC schools with large alumni bases congregated within the state, but it's still noticeable.
