C J Jackson decommitted?

Let's blame everything else except GTs piss poor performance over the past five years culminating in a beat down by a subpar MAC team in front of 20k fans.
This is the real answer. Getting pantsed by BG in front of a lot of recruits and no one else is a great way to burn up all the goodwill that Key generated with his interim tag and since he got the full time job. That was a back to the ground floor type of game if you lose it.

But it's not the real answer. As bad as those losses hurt the fan base, it doesn't have as much bearing on recruits as you would think. High school kids care about 2 things now-a-days...

1 - can I get on the field early? (all the good ones expect to do this at any school)
2 - how much money can I get?

It's been this way for a long time. Now it's just (mostly) over the table.

Word on the street that NCAA is cracking down on all the official visits by prohibiting frivolous photoshoots for players... hopefully it'll bring down the number of 'unofficial visits' that schools had been 'investing' in.

Probably while I will eventually drop ST's. Not this season. It is just I feel more disconnected to the team now. I honestly cannot tell you who our LB's are. That is probably the first time ever I can't tell you who our starting LB's are. It is kind of like that across the entire team.

I think that’s the new reality with the transfer portal. I used to be able to name everyone on the team. Now I can’t keep up with all the comings and goings.

To be fair, our starting LBs couldn’t even tell you that they’re LBs either.

It's saying something that less than halfway into the season, Key is demoting a guy he worked next to for the last 3 years. A head coach's job is to recruit and assemble a great staff. If I were CJ, I'd be spooked by that too.

In front of very few fans, too.

Oboy… it’s probation time again, y’all!

Like a good friend of mine tells me, aren't we really just cheering for laundry, anyway? (He's a Bears fan)

Top high school recruits want to win. It has been that way for a long time. Sure they want to be on the field, and money is a factor; but no one wants to be on a sinking ship. We need players that want to be winners, and if they don't think that is possible here they will go where they think they can.

Typo..sorry. It's 'unofficial visits'. Kids these days are using these visits to get photo ops for their snapchat/IG feeds and reels. I think it's a good thing. Better not to waste a coach's/recruiting coordinator's time.

Ok. But what if Jackson told us he'd re-commit if we gave him what he wanted in NIL? Doesn't say much for not wanting to be on a sinking ship.

should have never kept him to begin with but we don't know the money situation.

If he is totally about the money and does not care if the team wins or loses, is that the type of player we need?

They all care if the team wins or loses but in this day and age, if you are good enough it's all about the money. So if we don't raise the NIL money we need, we'll never compete with the big boys anymore, other than a rogue win here and there. You aren't going to find any high caliber player that turns down money when it's a big difference.

Can GT afford the amount of $ he is looking for? If it's a bidding war, I think we know how this plays out.

I see the GTAA wasting $ on the Edge Building. Should be directed to buying the best O & D linemen that they can afford instead. Winning will sell more tickets, a new Edge Building won't do as much for the program that feels like it is on life support right now.

Desire to win is not an innate quality that all players have. There are measurables and un-measurables and too many on here focus solely on the measurables, as a result we have too many players with no heart. You seem to think it is all about money for every player and not about winning or losing. NIL is most definitely a factor; but it is not the only factor, winning vs. losing is also a factor.

Look at what Utah just announced yesterday. Can GT ever compete with something like this? With all the millionaire alums the school loves to brag about, they should.

Every player on ship’ gets a brand new Dodge Ram valued at $61,000 free on lease renewed every 6 months while on scholarship. Brilliant move by the Utes.
