Candidates For New Head Coach

I have no idea what this fanbase was expecting after a decade of all-in on the triple option. Has our staff made boneheaded game decisions? Yes of course they have room for improvement in several areas. However, the long play here is improving our talent such that we are not at a severe talent gap to our opponents every FBS game. This gap got so bad in CPJ's final years that even lower FBS teams on our schedule were more talented than us at nearly every position on film. Collins deserves a full five years before we can even *begin* to properly evaluate him due to how badly we recruited under CPJ. The super senior era has made his evaluation even harder because teams that out recruited us for the past six years will still be better than us until the super seniors finally drop out.
Tampa, as far as Ws, maybe so, but the confusion and poor preparation we see now in the 3rd year are troubling, no? As for the definitely improved recruiting, it is not at the hyped elite level that was advertised. He never explained it as elite compared to CPJ or Tech's historical norm, it was elite, period. The obvious chipping at one another on blown coverages among the secondary, isn't the best of looks either. A significant number among the fanbase fully recognized that this would be a difficult transition, but a lot of them also know a struggling staff when they see one. A lot of us have lived through them. Imo, some are not distinguishing between the elements of a tough transition and the metrics of a staff, tough transition or not.
If we don't "begin" to evaluate until after year 5, it will be a first in the history of CFB, with the possible exceptions of Marshall, SMU, and Tech in the early 80's.

Someday. That someday isn't in the next 4 years.

You are a dumbass if you think we wait until the contract runs out. I agree it won't be this year though. I think he gets 1 year maybe 2 provided he brings in new coordinators. He won't be able to recruit in years 6 or 7 if we are simply letting the contract run out.

I'm trying to remember. Did it used to be a bannable offense on this board to start a thread like this? Or was that some other board?

I think it was bannable to call for the head coach to be fired; but the OP didnt do that, kinda slid this thread into a legal loophole.

Yes we can see some things that dont look right, I agree. And yes, you can evaluate from day one and not wait until day 365*5. My point, though, is it will be an incomplete evaluation until year 5+. Some coaches are great X's and 0's and can beat your team of superior knights with his team of pawns, aka CPJ. Some coaches are not great at X's and 0's but can build a great program through recruiting and the right hires at assistants, aka Mack Brown. Other coaches are great CEO style coaches like Dabo and Saban. We wont get the complete picture until year 5+ just like we didnt get the complete picture of CPJ until then. CPJ could not build a program even though he could beat you with lesser players. Eventually lesser players attracted lesser players and we got caught in feedback loop that was spiraling.

If the GTAA is really operating at a high leadership level ... Stansbury rallies the troops and a massive upgrade is made to the assistant pool salary ... and then the assistants themselves. I'd start with Thacker. And what's better than getting a big time DC? Taking the best recruiter away from your rival in the process. This guy has no allegiance to UGAg beyond a pay check. Pay him whatever he asks to become the coaching equivalent of John Dewberry. https://georgiadogs.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/dan-lanning/2398

If we can get Gruden, I would do it. Otherwise, give CGC two more years to turn it around.

This is reasonable considering the circumstances, although I believe the situation, good or bad, will be obvious by the end October of next year.
Gruden would poison the recruiting well the way things are today. Activists would see to it, and in this case, they may be justified.
