Expansion Rumors…

If that's true, then gotta figure GT would be the only option for the B1G to get into the southeast (NCSU not AAU, Wake/Duke too small). We've already gone over the AAU factor and Atlanta market positives for us.

Big "if" though. This guy covers swimming for some publication I've never heard of. If someone reputable picks it up, I agree with your analysis.

Hell, if they were serious about getting ND to join any conference, they'd stop giving them a seat in the playoff negotiations.
SEC is the one that keeps allowing them in by not voting for and vetoing anything that would keep them out. They know as soon as ND is forced to join a conference it will be ACC or now more likely B1G and they dont want that.

Virginia and NC football suck ass historically and their home games are about as bad as Duke was during the ACC losing streak (that ended vs us unfortunately). I think that the B1G would get an overall better package. Clemson and FSU are of course prizes.
UNC is THE brand in the state of North Carolina. Of course the SEC would target them first and foremost. As far as sucking in football……That’s your opinion. They’ve had runs of success, and easily have the resources to compete in the SEC long term. That said, UNC is far better suited for the B1G.

Using attendance in a conversation regarding expansion against a program like UNC, while ignoring the obvious is a reach. Even when GT is good, attendance is still a struggle. The only ACC programs that constantly fill the stands are Clemson, NCSU and VT. ACC football just doesn’t have the programs that fill stadiums for one reason or another. I can see why GT, BC, Syracuse, Pitt and even Miami struggle to fill the stands (big city schools) but the others really don’t have the excuses. But this is a national issue as well. Why go to games when every game is on TV? Save time & money, plus have all the food, beer and ability to watch other games.

I’ve been to most ACC schools for games. Unc is as dead of an atmosphere as you can imagine and there’s no reason for it given the size of their fan base.

you go to Maryland before they moved to Big 10? lackluster atmosphere

From that article: "the Big Ten just feels wrong on many levels."

Based on what? I have always thought it made much more sense for ND than the ACC. And I maintain the idea of adding Navy is silly.

Yeah, academically, geographically, and culturally, Notre Dame might as well already be a Big Ten member. WTF is this guy talking about?

This Notre Dame site seems to think that ND to the ACC is most likely with Stanford and Navy; https://www.uhnd.com/football/2022/...notre-dame-football-than-b1g-mega-conference/

I've been to all the ACC stadiums minus Syracuse, multiple times for most and many times for some. I'd rank the typical stadium atmospheres into tiers like this (not ordered within the tiers):

Rocking
  • Clemson
  • FSU
  • VPI (they bring a crowd and get hyped, especially if they're any good)
  • NC State (not much above Tepid, but they bring a crowd and seem to care about football)

Tepid
  • Notre Dame (they bring the crowds, but they don't get rowdy)
  • Louisville (to be fair, I've only been there once, for a weeknight game, and we boatraced them)
  • UNC (mediocre crowd, no energy)
  • UVA (they had fallen to the Morgue tier, but rebounded the last time I was there)
  • Wake Forest (small but energetic)
  • GT (we used to be rocking, but we've really fallen off in the last decade or so)
Morgue
  • Maryland (maybe they should be in the Tepid tier, but I don't really remember much energy in the place)
  • Duke (nobody there)
  • Miami (nobody there in a pro stadium, but the people who are there are assholes)
  • Boston College (nobody there, and that's how the school and the neighborhood want it)
  • Pitt (nobody there in a pro stadium)

Conferences really need to rename themselves from scratch, before our naturally anal-retentive fanbase starts writing them letters.
