I thought the Big10 Network was already attached to most providers, meaning they don't really have to sell it. They just get a bigger payout when they have a school in state. GA and NC are 8 and 9 in population rankings. VA us 12th with about 2 million less people. Any of the 3 would be a big bump.
That is if I remember correctly from when I actually gave a öööö enough to research last time.
Could be, I haven’t researched it. I’m just going off articles I read during each expansion phase.
For the B1G, I think GT, UVa, and UNC are the best fits. Miami is also a fit, but less so.
FSU, Clemson, and VT have a lot of potential. VT would be a great fit for the SEC. The Bristol game showed that. Clemson and FSU, while great football schools, don’t really add anything to the SEC. Both schools would weaken existing SEC members if they have sustained success. Existing SEC members would benefit from having both fall on hard times. For the SEC, getting one of UVa/VT and UNC/NCSt would add value. Adding Miami probably would too as south FL recruiting is different from the rest of the state. Those kids love to stay local. *UVa would be a horrible cultural fit for the SEC.
Pitt is getting screwed. They are a good football school in a football state. They have interest in a football loving city. They have solid academics. But adding them does nothing for the B1G and does nothing for the SEC.
Outside of NC and VA, the SEC is reaching its natural boundaries. They either add schools in their existing footprint, or stretch too far (Utah, CO, Kansas).
The SEC could add WV with the hopes of increasing interest in the Pittsburgh area but I think overall it would just dilute their payout.
