Expansion Rumors…

There's like three or four people in this thread making it seem like this is an actual serious discussion and a good decision after a four-game losing streak. Full retard that the same people who think we need to go to a "stronger conference" to stay competitive are the ones who want to drop our biggest rival. Completely nonsensical.

This is dumb.

Just stop. Get help. Maybe step away from your keyboard until 2023 or 2024.
They are out biggest rival.

We are no better than their 4th biggest rival, behind Florida, Auburn, Tennessee.

It is approaching the level of the governor's cup being like the trophy UCONN made to try to manufacture a rivalry with UCF.

The inability of this board to think strategically is astounding. The majority of this board seems to think the end game here is one major conference, the SEC, and whatever kluges together from the remaining teams. I hope the B1G isn't going to all this trouble for the goal of being the 2nd best college football conference behind the SEC. If the B1G becomes the dominant football conference, then that is where Georgia Tech fans should want to be.

Second, if you want to take back Atlanta. Join the more dominant conference and stop looking up to UGA like a little brother. You may not win back Hickville, Ga.; but if the B1G dominates college football, then the B1G will dominate the NIL, and the players and coaches we come. Some of you seem focused on being the 2nd best team in the state as long as we win 1 out of 4 and play UT and AUB.

UGA lost all but a couple games in a 20-year span to Florida. Time, money, and coaching makes a difference. Now they have effectively reversed roles. This period in GT sports sucks, but it isn’t a reason to be reactive to a rivalry.

Lol. "Watch me make up arguments that no one is making, pretend they are the dominant position, and argue against them"

You said 2 major things GT doesn’t have in their favor.

1. Coaching
2. Money

UF is in the position UGA was in for a good 10 year span of those 20 years, but the endless supply of $$$ is at their disposal to make whatever changes are needed at any time.

Where is the $$$ GT is providing to upgrade athletics? Still waiting on aging donor X,Y & Z. Instead of the younger alums who would rather spend time at whatever Nerdcon event is available that month.

I lived through 1980 and 1981. It was a different era. Instead of NIL we had Trans Ams and Uga's "if we can get them to be able to work at the Post Office instead of on a garbage truck" degree program.
I was there on that glorious day in 1984 when it all came back around too. Im looking forward to that day again.

Untrue. You can tell we are their biggest rival based on what happens when we beat them. They can lose to Auburn, Florida and Tennessee a few times and all their fans do is grumble. When they lose to us three in a row they fire the coach and put up billboards dissing the players.

Yea, what happens when we beat them is they behave like Georgia State or Georgia Southern has beaten them. A much lesser school beating them is indicative of bad coaching. They accept, but hate, losing to Auburn, Tennessee, or Florida because those schools they consider their peers.

Couldn't agree more. It's continually astounding to me how small-minded GT fans are.

Tech is very desirable to the B1G because of the TV market. Why do you think GA State went FBS so quickly. The $80M/year isn't too bad either. Besides if we do go to the B1G we can start telling B1G jokes like:
Why don't UofMN women go out with UofWI men?
Did you ever see what a Badger does to a gopher hole?
Honey Badger don't give no öööö....

Interesting article about FSU from a Gainesville, FL sports writer. I got a free read, so I assume others can too ---

The interesting note in that article, if true, is about a $425 mm buyout estimate for exit fee and GOR. If the disparity continues to grow to $50 to $60 mm a year over the foreseeable future between B1G and ACC, we break even in roughly 7 years. I’d take the sure spot in B1G now, if we have one, to make sure we have a seat and solidify our future.

That is how Arkansas was with Texas is the SWC except for a few years in the 60's.

way behind Oklahoma and A&M as a UT rival

Now Arky has been in the SEC for 30 years while those schools are just now crawling in and all of Arky's major teams are looking it.

a lot of years getting their brains bashed in though, had a football coach or 2 worse than our current one

The sh9t can be done. Arkansas is out in the middle of nowhere but on the other hand they are the only game in town where they are so they fill up venues when they are good at all.

Latest rumor out today says that Pac12 and Big12 are now closer to a merger, leaving the ACC out in the cold due to the enormity of the GOR payment.
