Expansion Rumors…

Came across a Buckeye podcast with an "insider" who allegedly called USC/UCLA before it happened, would be impressed if there were receipts, who is saying talks between B1G and ND are heating up more than ever in the last 2 weeks. Said if they do join their joining partner may likely be 1 of Stanford, GT, or Oregon.

Listening to that guy talk for 2 minutes to relay one sentence of rumor was brutal

If it's as strong at the ACC suits tout it to be, ESPN would hold fast on it, it's a bargain for them.
If the $$$ disparity reduces the ACC to non-competitive nationally and viewership drops or is poached to the SEC or B1G, it is not a sweetheart deal for ESPN. Alternatively, if money is pumped into the contract and grows the ACC Network through stronger teams, ESPN will have a sweeter deal than what the other two are offering. It's not zero sum for ESPN. With the ACC already at 14.5 teams, ND's contract expiring soon and locked into the ACC, and no divisions to balance, the ACC is not far from competing with them.

I think the best case is to split 16 teams from the remaining little three conferences. You could concentrate on football first teams.
Split into 2 geographic regions.
Pitt, WV, VT, NCSt, GT, Clem, FSU, Miami
Ore, Wash, Stanford, Utah, CO, OkSt, TT, ASU

That group could draw decent ratings early, midday, prime, and late. There would be the votes to kill the PAC and ACC without completely killing the schools left behind. BC could replace Pitt or WV, but I don’t think they draw enough viewers for football to make it worthwhile. If you went to 18 teams, you could add BC and Baylor/TCU. But I don’t think they would increase the per team share.

UNC would be a bigger prize than NCSt, but either works. AU and ASU would be interchangeable.

To maximize the number of games, I would have at least a 9 game schedule.

Well if ND, UNC or others spend the money to break up the GOR, you could see this happening.

I would love to see the ACC/ESPN contract. I wonder if either or both have options to exit the agreement.

Might need to swap WV for BC/Cuse to guarantee a death to the GOR. But I think you can get a vote from ND. They can play Non-football sports with uva, unc, wake, duke, cuse, bc. My guess is that UL would be left out of that gentleman’s club.

You thinking GT stays?

So how are we breaking the GOR?

California is gonna force their hand on Cal or UCLA is gonna be a no go.
Force their hsnd ? The decision from the regents would basically kill UCLA so they could 'save' Cal! Even California thinking finds a problem with that.

Yes, exactly what I just said.

And it wouldn't kill UCLA. UCLA would still serve the actual purpose of being a university.

Playing in the BIG10 for any California school is stupid, ultimately, and makes life more difficult for those in the team who are actual students. But, money rules the roost of CFB now more than ever so enjoy that trip to play Northwestern or Minnesota or Wisconsin in November, USC. Time change, cold, shorter daylight hours, long hours of travel. Stupid.
