Expansion Rumors…

As 2035 approaches does the buyout from the ACC go down?

I just wonder if real football programs like GT, FSU, Miami, Clem, UNC, NCS, UVA, VPI could start their own football conference (ie the SEC model). Could another media player step forward in the next five years? This would be very good and help college football survive; it’s dying on the vine for just about 3/4ths of D1 football. I am not convinced that ESPN/ACC will extend us next year… Unless someone steps up, this conversation is over for everyone but the Big Trn/SEC and handful of new adding.

Has any business ever said "welp, that's it, we are big and profitable enough" with new territories untapped? You just let your competition have it?
Cartels do that all the time. That’s basically the definition of a cartel. College football is a cartel.

The ACC deal is good for ESPN because it adds cheap content. It is in someways bad because they’re forced to showcase some terrible football teams. But we make a good Wahington Generals for their Harlem Globetrotters.

Yes but as the end of the deal approaches we should be working the media folks hard. ESPN helped destroy college football, they need to keep us intact possibly for their own good?

In other words squeeze them for a more comparable deal.

This reads like we’re suddenly talking about housing prices circa early 2007 or WSB talking about stonks and being apes with diamond hands.

Or perhaps even better analogy, CFB about to enter NASCAR world where they think current fandom will just hang on for the ride while the suits blow the doors off what made it special for all these years.
This is exactly what is happening. I am going to enjoy this offseason and next season because we have reason to be optimistic about our team, during whatever little window of time remains in which schools like Georgia Tech have anything like a fair shot at competing for a national championship.

That window of time you think you have closed and was welded shut when FSU got shut out of the playoff. Oh sure, we or another ACC team can make the wildcard playoff round of 8; but the purpose of the round of 8 is to make sure the non-SEC/B1G teams have an extra game to play before they are allowed into the inner sanctum to play a well rested B1G/SEC team.

No see that is the window he is talking about. Cause after I think 2 years the current structure of the 12 team playoff ends and they have to agree to renew it or make a new one and you know damn well the SEC and Big10 will lobby for no more auto bids. Then we get to listen to ESPN/Fox campaign for a 9-3 SEC/Big10 team to get in over a 12-1 ACC/Big12 champion.
