Collins did 2/3 of those. How'd that work out?

Not at an FCS program he didn't. He rode the coattails of Rhule at Temple, and ended up making the program worse.Collins did 2/3 of those. How'd that work out?
He has also attracted a pretty impressive array of transfers.
All I'm saying is if you take an FCS team that went 4-7, and you get them 11 wins, and a better recruiting class than a good amount of power 5s, you should be given some damn good consideration
If you can outrecruit everyone in the NCAA, it's pretty hard to still suck. What's the difference between a flash in the pan and sustained success?

Yes, but 4 stars in power 5 are as common as white people in a grocery store at the threat of a snow storm. In FCS, you might get 1 or two over the whole FCS. Deion got (and this is a crapshoot number, but I'm estimating) roughly 20 4 stars just to his team alone.Collins brought in multiple 4* guys here and got some 4* transfers. Yet he couldn't turn the program around because he couldn't' coach.
When everyone else is only pulling in FCS talent, a few 4* can hide a LOT of flaws in coaching.

I definitely don't want Todd Monken. He was not successful as HC at Southern Miss and really hasn't been successful aside from being OC at UGA.

He hired ööööty assistant coaches and coordinators. His talent evaluation wasn't great either. How many of his recruits have lived up to their ranking?
There is lots at play here. You don't completely rule out a strategy if you think you can implement it better with someone else.
I'm not sold on him, but you have to take a serious look at him.
Todd knows what's wrong with us, granted it's a ton. He has to gameplan against us every year. Plus, we get key info to the dwags, AND dwag fans would be pissed. Sounds like a win win.I definitely don't want Todd Monken. He was not successful as HC at Southern Miss and really hasn't been successful aside from being OC at UGA.
Deion isn't satisfied winning 49-7. He's cut from the same bloodline as PJ coachingwise. and PJ is one of the best coaches I've ever seen, whether you like his scheme or not. That's part of my point. Deion missing on evaluating a 4* is still going to land him with talent far higher than everyone else and talent can cover a lot of bad coaching.
I'm not saying we shouldn't even consider Deion, but a recruit first strategy has to be backed up by good coaching. We don't know that Deion is a good coach or if he's just a really good salesman. We don't even know if he's a consistent salesman because of how short his career is. Considering the risks, I'd rather have a solid football coach and us hire a recruiting staff that can support their branding. This is a cheaper, far safer strategy. Going all in on Deion is just rolling the dice for the next Geoff Collins.

Not according to this. He just wants the right school to offer him.Deion has other goals - based on interviews and what I've read, he's really focused on bolstering the visibility of HBCUs. I, for one, applaud him for doing so. I just don't think he's going to be ready to abandon a somewhat altruistic vision for HBCUs to take a job at Tech. He doesn't need the money of a P5 coaching job and he has no connection to our school (other than whooping on Tech in FSU's glory days).

Based on how he's not satisfied with good or "elite." Watch the dude play football.Based on what?
Also unlimited pressure the likes of which he will not see at GT. People want to point out his Florida failure while ignoring his success at MS State. I would say Tech has a lot more in common with MS State (not academics obviously, just athletics) than with Florida. I think you can win a National Championship at Tech in a good year, but we aren't going to demand title-or-bust annually like Florida will, and quite honestly should given their recruiting.Mullen would be an awful hire. He can coach, but got lazy at Florida and couldn't succeed with their unlimited resources.
His 4* transfers were basically washouts that we took in like strays. To act like he was a good recruiter is to laser focus on his one good class and especially Gibbs. Take away Choice's recruits which pretty much carried every class, and I doubt anyone would say Collins can recruit. He did prove that GT can attract top players, which is a datapoint we desperately needed to understand. We needed to get past the "nobody good wants to come here" woe is me bullshit.Collins brought in multiple 4* guys here and got some 4* transfers.
