Assistants are usually favorites among the players because they already have familiarity with them. Unless the players just hate the current staff, they're never going to want someone they don't know to come in and replace the guys they've worked with. It rarely works out, though.

Same goes McCollum right now. Something about the Macs...

The only times I can recall it ever working for the best was Dabo at Clemson and Jimbo at FSU. Still too early to tell for Lincoln Riley and Coach O.

Clemson definitely hit a home run with Dabo. Jimbo was brought in to eventually replace Bowden, so it was a little bit different.
 
With all the drama and comments on the new hire, I just want to say MY guess is Whisenhunt will be the next HC. No matter who is hired GT will still have my support and allegiance. Looking forward to a new chapter in Tech football.
 
The AD who hired Gailey said, "When I talked to him, I knew I had found the next Bobby Dodd", or words very similar to that.
