Gibson: “it is why it is”

He runs out of bounds a lot before the sticks. Our QBs are coached to preserve their body. Sometimes that is the right call, sometimes it’s not.
Like when he ran out of bounds, clearly not at 100%, on a scramble Thursday making sure to get the first down? Like that?

A 100% healthy Sims runs away with that game. I think UVA realized he couldn't run early and it simplified their defense. Gibson looks like he is running in loose sand.

Wish I could agree with you but I think that’s far fetched. He couldn’t run away from Western Carolina. His best game this year gave us 20 points against Duke. Sims has a ton of physical talents but he’s not an good quarterback.

Just watched the condensed game on youtube. I recorded it on my DVR but didn't have the fortitude to watch the whole fiasco. Behind our OL you don't have the luxury of sitting in the pocket and holding the ball. You have to make quick decisions with the ball, which we are failing miserably to do. I'm not sure if that is the direct result of poor offensive schemes or our QB's are just not up to snuff. Whatever the reason we need our coaching staff to step to figure it out. It does appear Thacker has got the defense playing better. Of course, that could be the result of the competition.

You mean the play where he could get the first down and not take a hit. No, I’m talking about taking a hit to get a first down. Sims definitely has run out of bounds just short of the first numerous times. I’m not sure he would have taken a hit on the play you are referencing if it would have come a yard earlier.

There is no reason for your QB to take a hit near the sideline. Hardly ANY QB does that. Most QB's also slide on middle of the field runs. Sims is BY FAR our best runner.

Fun fact is that if Gibson doesn't complete the pass on the crossing route in OT versus Duke to set up a shorter FG, we might've lost

Sure Gibson's mom. We loved the quit he displayed on the last play. After all, a hail Mary never happens in CFB.
Maybe you can post a video of one by a backup QB taking the snap at his own 36. TIA.
