Has the CPJ era ‘Jumped The Shark?’

Every pass looks like öööö that TM throws. The defense isn't in his face on every throw. Lucas Johnson is a QB who was quite prolific throwing the ball in HS. He is tall. He is big, 215 or so. I'm tired of seeing tiny little qb's trying to fling the ball.
Was he as prolific as Vad Lee?

Now that's dumb. We've sucked the hardest when we've added wrinkles, kinda like our D has been the worst when it's been too complicated. These kids thrive on straightforward scheming, focus and emphasis on execution. Our biggest problem is kids having too much thinking to do — that's what it means when CPJ gets all upset that the OL is missing their assignments... they're not making the right reads.

If things aren't working, it's insanity to keep repeating them and expecting different results. That's dumb.

And if the scheme is so damn complicated, simplify it. Stop trying to fit the players to the scheme and instead fit the scheme to what you have.

This isn't true. Groh was an old man riding it out, he was even worse as a broadcaster and didn't last as long.

We have the most intelligent team in D1 (if you believe SAT scores are an indicator).

Hard to get used to our offense looking that bad after 10 years. I agree that institutional barriers exist that prevent consistent 10 win seasons, but we shouldn't look like öööö against the likes of UVa.
Bronco Mendenhall was brought in specifically to defend option. He's the best HC in the country at it. Played Air Force like a thousand times.

And I told you guys this last year, and again this year. This is a real problem.

Navy seems to be able to adjust with lesser talent than us. Are we incapable of adjusting?

YIKES! Maybe because, just guessing here, the Navy coach (along with every other decent coach in America) realizes that sometimes you HAVE to adjust? This may, unintentionally, be a huge indictment.

We should have had about 250 more yards passing. TM just couldn't hit wide open guys or left the ball in the air too long.

I don't know if everybody forgot about this or not but we tried to hire an OL guru at the same time Richt took the Miami job and Richt hired the guy away from us (with a much higher salary).

And don't forget that CPJ also tried to hire a top flight DC when he let Groh go but we couldn't offer him enough money so he went somewhere else. I cannot recall his name but could pick it out of a lineup.

So, its not like CPJ hasn't tried to bring in the talent but he has been frustrated with the compensation we are able to offer. We lost two seriously good hires over salary.

So how does um (who it appears by reading our boards only attracts 10,000 per game) have the ability to pay more?

I guess one in two um grads are millionaires.

He was hired to beat GT? Doubtful. He was hired because he beat a lot of other teams.

The triple option literally put me to sleep Saturday.

This is the problem, CPJ is a genius, most of get it. We all saw wide open receivers for easy long gains/touchdowns.

The issue is our genius coach kept calling this shit even though his players couldn't execute.

3rd and 4 from midfield is typically 2 running plays to get 4 yards. On Saturday it was piss poor pass play and punt.

I'm sure he felt vindicated on the go ahead TD, and we'll hear him talk about player execution this week, and how his play calls were awesome.

In the end though it doesn't matter how great your play calls are if your qb can't make the passes and your oline can't block, and to continually call these plays that don't work is insanity

no he wasn't. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, I didn't like the play calling there. Very Nix-ish in its insistence that a player do something they had shown very little ability to do.

No shit. May as well have put Ricky Jeune in the wildcat and asked him to throw. It would have been just as successful.

I'm sure TM is a great young man. His interviews are entertaining and he seems to enjoy them. However, he is regressing, badly. Play calling has a bit to do with it because we are asking him to do something he has yet to show he can do, pass the ball consistently.

TM is a great option QB, but he needs more practice throwing that down field ball. I'm sure he did zero of that while practicing Aback. Add in that he already has a years worth of carries and our O starts to sputter.

Hope CPJ works something out, because we need to finish 5-3 in conference to show improvement over last year.

Stay undefeated at home!

If that's true then the scheme is clearly hindering - not helping - us. If that's true, then an alleged "offensive genius" might do well to add some wrinkles to this thoroughly-deciphered offense. Say, some quick slants, some out routes, the occasional shotgun formation?

If what you say is true, then only a stubborn old fool would keep running the same stuff year after year and expect differing results.

Sorry, I'm not buying the "bring back Vad Lee argument.

Yep.

The whole point of the flexbone alignment is to suck the defense in to defend option and throw over the top. I'd like to see us spend an entire week just drilling the passing game.
