Haunting words by CPJ...

Lol, but you're basically saying oblivion and not caring at all is better than having some sort of emotional investment in the game?

I'm literally saying the exact opposite lol.

Did Tech fans feel worse after '09 and '13 or after '21?

Which is a worse feeling - to have a trophy fish near the boat and have the line break? Or not catch a thing all day?
Which is a worse feeling - to have a 5-foot putt to win a golf tourney and miss it? Or to MC and not be in contention?

Which of these will you remember 10, 20 years from now?

Maybe it's all about personality. A competitor/someone who's played sports and competed at a high level won't remember the missed cuts, blowouts, or broken lines. You think Jack Nicklaus is more upset about his MCs or his 20+ career 2nd places in majors?

You know nothing John Snow.

But seriously speaking, you generally make decent arguments.

I think I would rather get close and miss vs not being there at all. That way, at least, you know you're headed in the right direction.

Bolded what I think would feel worse. Yeah there's heartbreak when you lose at a big moment, but I'd rather do that than have no hope at all. At least you can buy into the drama as it unfolds. If you're a falcons fan, would you rather not have gone to the 2017 Super Bowl at all?

That's an apples-to-oranges. Would it have been better for ATL to get blown out by Brady and the Pats or set a new record for Worst SB Choke In History? Yes, I'd rather play the mutts than boot 'em off our schedule, which is what your example more-closely resembles.

We are clearly on opposite sides of this. Losing a trophy bass is far, far worse than getting Zero'd, having done both. Scott Hoch feels worse about missing that 3-footer in '89 in Augusta than he does about MC'ing at Doral. That's "Hoch". As in "Choke".

I would too but again this isn't "Would You Rather?". It's "Which leaves you with a worse feeling?"

Given the state of the program, I could not begin to give AF about the 2021 mutt blowout. The 09 and 13 games were much worse, as a fan, than '21 was. I still see us throwing dumb sideline bomb incompletions at the end in '09 but I don't recall watching a single play in '21 because the result was a foregone conclusion.

I see what you are saying.

In that case it goes back to what you were saying, depends on the person.

This is extremely incorrect. Oliver + Yates + Graham was probably the deepest and most talented group of option QBs in his entire tenure. Graham especially would have been electric in that offense.

When he left I remember being really bummed about finally building that great QB room and not being able to see what he could do with it.

Brandon Adams is also a variable worth mentioning here. He was probably gonna be a pre-season all conference DT in 2019.

Option QBs. That’s perfect…if you’re running the option. I’m surprised he didn’t leave his playbook and claim that he was leaving us the strategy for offensive dominance.

2021 will be remembered as the day we didn't fire our HC. It's the gift that keeps on giving. The hangover is still going strong 10 months later.

Uhhh you said he left because the qb room was pitiful. You think he left because his qb room was full of great option QBs lol?

Here we go with the same, old tired arguments.

Our days of going to ACC championships were over? Yet we were literally one play away from doing exactly that in 2018, even in a disappointing season.

CPJ was done, they had figured him out? Then explain why we had a freaking RB at QB and still put up 34 ppg, including dropping 66 on Louisville and 49 on VT.

As disappointing as the end of CPJ’s tenure was, we were still only a good QB away from being a 9+ win team, even with mediocre talent elsewhere on the field.

This happens every time you make the CPJ haters play out their arguments. It literally makes no sense.

GT yards per play vs Clemson / Clemson defense YPP average for year

2018: 3.17/4.19
2017: 4.11/4.27
2016: 2.38/4.63
2015: 4.11/4.85

We were still a worse offense against them than their yearly average for each year.
As a fan of both teams, I’ll bite on this one.

After GT beat Clemson in 2014, Venables made a noticeable change when defending the option. The play side safety basically fired into the offensive backfield at the snap, leaving the defensive backfield wide-ass open. He knew his DL would contain the dive, so he forced everything to the perimeter and he let his NFL safeties blow the play up before we could turn the corner.

If we had legitimate passing and receiving threats, we would have made them pay. We still beat them deep for TDs once or twice per game in that stretch, but mainly we just sputtered. That’s why recruiting is so important - if we had a Bay Bay (or even Smelter) on that team, he would have run wild in that type of matchup.

One of CPJ's major failures was refusing to part with Sewak.. There were problems at DC but he kept shuffling the deck. Sewak though was untouchable when he clearly was dead weight. A change for the positive in the OL performance would've made all the difference in the world. Go figure.
The problems at DC were he never got the money to spend for the DC he wanted

We won in 2014 mostly because we KO'd your 2 starting QBs and had 2 Pick-6s off Cole Stoudt. The D doesn't get much credit during the PJ Era but it absolutely brought the heat that day and deserves credit for that W.
