Most likely just got his SAT scores back. Not hard to make good grades at a Tri-Cities without learning anything. No way any coaching staff can predict an SAT score.
As a high school teacher and coach, yes, this is exactly what can happen. Grades aren't an indicator of what a student can do. Been at 3 schools and athletes get better grades than they earn. It's the nature of the beast. Especially if the kid is a good kid and you want to see him make something of himself.
