There is a basketball forum. You and @jts1207 should have a date there. I’d love to have the problem of saying our football team’s ACC championship really still sucks, but I don’t think Geoff is gonna give me that opportunity.

You have to give him the same 3 more years you gave to Pastner ….and maybe In year 5 a few of the top teams will forfeit and we can win a ACC Championship…..
 
I posted it in another thread, but the consensus when Pawl left was that we were in for a few bad years during the transition away from flexbone. Given that mindset, a coach who can recruit and brand the program to elevate our position within high schools while the results suck isn't a bad thing.

Counter: we've pretty much turned over the roster and if CPJ'S guys are still playing it's because they're better than some high rated recruits. So, at this point, we're seeing what this staff's capability really is and, guess what? It's not D1 quality. Our OC is the only one who thinks he's smart. Our DC can't get the play calls in quickly enough and we collapse against tempo (otherwise he's actually not that bad, but the problem is everyone caught onto that last year and even NIU figured it out). Our HC is genuinely one of the least intelligent human beings I've ever heard talk. Sorry, I was supposed to be defending them.
 
None. The only good thing that ever came out of Conyers is I-20.

2) I’m not sure you understand the comparison you are trying to make. Both admittedly inherited difficult situations, but here are their resumes after 2 seasons:

Pastner :
Won 49% of games
Competitive in vast majority of games
ACC Coach of the Year

Collins:
Won 27% of games
Humiliated in unprecedented fashion multiple times
#404theCulture

3) Collins will get his chance to prove himself, just like Pastner. He’s not off to a great start, but stranger things have happened.

yes ….given 3 more years like pastner was given. I encourage all the Pastner fanboys to coddle Collins as they did for the 4.8 years of suck

I posted many times through the years in bball that if Pastner was doing this in football you’d be calling for his head…..well here we are

I think he’ll probably have that long given his contract. And, to answer your question, there’s several reasons folks are more upset with Geoff than Pastner:
(1) This is the football forum.
(2) People in this forum, and GT fans in general, care more about football than they do basketball.
(3) Pastner is an upgrade on Xs and Os in basketball. We improve as the season goes on.
(4) Football is a different sport than basketball. Wins mean more and losses mean more, and bad losses could affect your program for a much longer time.
(5) Pastner isn’t doing as much cheesy stuff like money down and junk.
(6) ACC football and ACC basketball is not the same.
(7) Smaller conference schools can still win basketball games. There’s literally hundreds of examples. But they should not win football games, and that’s becoming a trend under Collins. The Citadel and NIU. Geez.

Anyways, I admire that you are so consistent in your disdain for our Bball coach. And I’ve been one of Pastner’s biggest supporters. Still am.

We need to win in football now, and I’m hoping Geoff can make that happen this year, even with the disastrous loss yesterday.

i don’t believe these will get fixed. He’s a total ööööing idiot at it and hasn’t taken one step showing he’s capable of fixing these issues at any point.

Defensively, I don’t know. Sometimes we look good and sometimes awful. We definitely need a counter to up tempo. We got lucky in the last game because Rocky was trying to get a quick snap when literally our entire DL was looking to the sideline. Had he gotten the snap, they would have gotten a big gain and potentially knocked all 4 of out linemen out for a play or two. Way to slow getting the defensive calls in.

And Collins needs to improve on game management obviously. He isn’t even up to major high school level at this point.

I'm not completely sold on our S&C coach either. I think they guys are in pretty good shape; but our OL and DL wasn't overpowering anyone last night, and that was against a MAC team. Are our linemen doing the same workouts as our skill players?
