Especially that OL. Hmm…ironic no?

And Clemmons wideouts weren't spectacularly coached before Dabo got the head gig following a firing. No one was louder than this very forum calling Dabo a clown. He's proof that the biggest skills are motivating, recruiting, and assembling a staff. We have sufficient cause to be cautiously optimistic on Key in all those items without needing to mortgage more of Tech's future on another unknown.

Saban is the best there ever was at the college level, yet in the NFL where 2 of those 3 items are irrelevant and he had to gameplan, he got his clock cleaned.

Overall, head coaching is just plain different than position coaching.

I don’t
The big thing Key did was what any half decent coach would and should have done - changed the way the team practiced
Under Clown, there’s no indication we prepared for what other teams did. Under Key, we practiced to compete in games. After 3 years of watching Clown’s utter disaster, even mere competence looks sparkling by comparison
Color me skeptical that less than one week of changed practice was sufficient to change what was going on with the team enough to beat Pitt. There was something else going on. I don’t know what it is, but 4 practices is not enough to suddenly instill fundamentals that have been missing for so long.

Pitt was pure emotion/pulling together. Happens a lot with the first game of an interim. The fact it was sustained through the season is what points to practice changes, impoved focus and coaches putting kids in position to succeed. And you can say what you will on UVA, FSU, and Miami but you also have to take into account the qb situations we got put in for each of those games. UVA I’m probably most frustrated about b/c we could/should have built a lead before Sims went out. FSU was simply better, but we moved the ball with Pyron. Miami was close until Pyron went out. The fact we played as well as we did the last 2 with Gibson and Taisun also speaks to coaching and preparation.

Hell, clock management took a major turn. We properly ran the play clock, especially against UNC and UGAg. Hell, the only time we used up game clock under Collins was when we were confused and had to take a timeout to keep from getting a penalty. That happened on the first play of a series at least once under Collins.
And thank God "It's MONEY DOWNNNNN!!!!" will never be muttered over our loudspeakers again. Embarrassing when that öööö is happening and you are down 3 or so scores in the 4th. And no more juice crew. Forced to bounce around, dance, wave towels, while we were getting our asses handed to us. I bet there are current and former players who embarrassingly look back at that BS.

Anyway, coach em up GOL style. He was so damn organized. Practices well run. Solid program. We need to get back to that. Fundamentals.

I’m talking about stuff like an OL that didn’t know who to block, receiver/QB sync issues, stuff like that. None of that gets corrected in 4 practices.

I believe it got simplified a bit. We especially looked better against the mutts

We mucked up running down the clock against Duke. Hopefully lessons were learned

Hey guys we need to hire an experience coach that has a history of building programs. No not those G5 program builders, they have no experience in P5... Let's hire Key and surround him with well paid experienced coordinators. We should make Weinke OC and keep Thacker as DC ...

Like holy öööö do you not hear yourselves? Y'all some schizoid MFers

I really dont think there will be major changes to the staff in regards to coordinators...Key likes Thacker and brought the best out of him. Long is a solid OC, you just have to give him time in this situation.
