Official Don’t Burn Pyron’s Shirt Petition

Much more important than the redshirt (which doesn't mean as much these days) is whether we can retain him through the transition. New head coach needs to recruit him as their first act as coach, and if they are a good coach they will realize this.

This but unironically. We should go balls to the wall against the ACC teams we can compete against but there is no reason for a GT-UGA game this year. Do we really need to see them sleepwalk to a 38-0 win?
We are playing UGAg to win.

"Zach Gibson is a quitter, how can you step out of bounds to preserve your health for the long term when there's still a chance to win the game, no matter how small? Loser attitude!!!"

"You guys are idiots, how can you play Pyron against U[sic]GA when sitting him could help our team in four years and there's only a small chance to win? Stupid attitude!!!"

I'd like to preserve as much of Pyron's playing time as possible, assuming he wins the job again next season with the new coach (sorry, not a Key fan). I'd play him against Miami and UGA. There's a good chance we can beat Miami. There's more bowls than there are "eligible" teams, but I believe 5 win P5 teams will get the nod for a bowl over 6 win G5 teams. That's about as good as this season gets. That's pretty impressive considering "hope" was a four letter word at the beginning of the season.. Otherwise, I'd hate to forfeit what might've been if the next coach can surround Pyron with success.

Burn the shirt. There’s no guarantee any player stays 4 years even if they’re starting. If he’s the best QB we have, let him play.
I'd say let him keep the redshirt even if he ends up leaving. To have lost a year of eligibility in a year where the HC is fired would be a shame.

Gibson didn't step out to preserve his health, he just accepted the loss and didn't want to put in the effort to put the ball in the air.

And as much as it pains me to say it, we have the same chance at beating the dwags no matter who the QB is.

Probably true, but if Gibson gave up at the end of a game against Virginia one can only imagine what he would do against UGA.

I can't imagine it would make much of a difference. I'd sit Pyron out for UNC and have him play UGA. If ESPN's prediction says we have a 1.2% of winning, I'd want Pyron in there to make sure we use all 1.2% to kick them in their nut with steel tip boots.

No, we're not. We're playing them because they're on the schedule. Reality check time. Their second string would beat us 34-10. It is what it is.
If that were the case, we would have forfeited the 1980's to them

Pyron may have better upside, but Sims is the better QB right now. If Sims is healthy, he plays immediately. It would be better now and in the long run. If you burn Pyron's redshirt, he and Sims are a year apart for the next two years. You're likely to lose Pyron or Sims as soon as this offseason if that happens. That is not how you rebuild.

It's an interesting dilemma for Key. He is a candidate for the permanent HC position. Does he burn Pyron's RS to win the job, or RS him to demonstrate that he's already thinking like HC, because no HC would continue to play Pyron with a healthy Sims available.

play sims and beat miami.. then he's got full choice for next two right?

I would have said that Pyron gives us a better chance to win right now based on the last three halves. His passing just looked on another level compared to Sims -- Sims has really struggled with consistency and accuracy.

I agree. Pyron looks like the best option with only 1.5 games to compare. I also think Key is in an interesting position of only having to play the short game (wins get jobs). He will start the QB and game plan that gives him the best chance to win, 2023+ is a non-factor.

Sims has played in 6 games this year and passed for more then 250 yards one time. Pyron passed for over 250 yards in his first career start. IMO he’s no more of a risk of turnover then Sims. The fact that we have to debate who’s better between a true freshman and a 3 year starter is all the evidence needed. Give me Pyron and then we have a capable backup for the remainder of the year in Sims.

We may have another decent QB yes. Think Hooker at TN is thankful for his redshirt year now? What about Pickett at Pitt last year? Let's waste a year of his eligibility by one game playing for a crap team. Great idea champion.

Who do you think RSed Hooker lol. Hint: it wasn’t Tennessee.

He’s literally a perfect example against your argument.

Pyron still needs someone teaching him how to protect himself. He is not a small dude but the way he is taking the hits could be coached better. I am all for taking on defenders when the first down is on the line but you can position yourself better.
Yea. The dawgs will put him in the hospital if he tried to do some hero move like he did on the first drive of the VT game. Needs to get down.

Based on last years game, UNC would be the best game for Sims to play. Then decide on uga based on the unc game.
