Official post-game bitch session

At this point I just want to finish 6-6, though I had projected 7-5. Obviously NCSt is the game to point to in order to get the sixth win. Win that game, win a bowl game, finish with the same record as the year before, but up against a tougher schedule.

With the 2025 schedule, every ACC game is winnable, with Clemson at home. There’s Temple, G-Webb, @Colorado, and UGA @MBS. My expectations go up considerably next season.

Yeah, the stupid delay penalties coming out of a TO is inexcusable. He needs to work on his clock management skills. I think that will improve over time, but my biggest gripe is our unhurry up offense. We were down two scores with a little over 10 minutes remaining, but no urgency getting plays sent in and we ate clock waiting to snap the ball. Got to do better but I still have confidence in our staff.

I have nothing but respect for Pyron. He played with a ton of heart his freshman year and put the team on his back then. I really don't understand his play as a starter this season. He wasn't getting tunnel screens out on time today, ate the ball on a wide open downfield threat, missed reads in the running game, etc. Just as a whole, he didn't seem poised and in control of the offense. It's a shame because you would think he'd be playing with more confidence and freedom after a season backing up King.
He was holding the ball too long against ND. WR's were coming open, he was just waiting too long to throw.

The tougher schedule excuse went out the window after it became clear that FSU sucks.

Who beyond rumor did we even interview?

Cignetti would clearly have been a better hire. Beyond that I don’t know. I didn’t do the interviews. What I do know is that we hired an OL coach that everyone wanted fired because the O line was severely underperforming.
Saying “Cignetti would clearly have been a better hire” is 100% pure speculation. I seriously doubt the GT hill would have allowed Cignetti to bring in all his key players like Indiana did.

I’m not disagreeing with what was projected a Top 10 nationally OL is struggling at the moment. Overall there are issues on O that need to be resolved before the Miami game.

But take a step back and look at the schedule through 9 games….Who exactly has GT lost to where you can with a straight face say GT is better than? Based on the records, answer is none. The ACC middle tier is all about even. And one key injury is really making a difference for GT right now. VT was 11 point favorites for a reason today.

This is who we are. Everyone needs to accept it. We can go the unique route with coaches like we did with Johnson or we can go the inexperienced route and hope, like we are currently doing with Key. I had no problem with Johnson and have little issues with Key right now. If we get to year 4 and his team is still false starting out of commercial breaks and our defense still can’t get set or we are still burning timeouts in the 1st quarter then it will be time to move on. We simply can’t afford a tried and true coach like Ross today. And I hate retread types. I’d rather go innovative and hope - there are plenty of those out there - see Vandy’s coach,

I’m pulling for Key big time but he has to take action and not just say words about accountability. From where I sit there is very little accountability for in game mistakes by players which leads to soft players. If a Paul Johnson, Nick Saban, or Urban Meyer were our coach today they could have made a documentary about our sideline because those coaches would have been all over the players and we’d probably have a few guys transferring out. Instead, we false start or fall down a yard short of the marker and nothing - just send out the punter for the 9th time. Meanwhile we just got beat rather easily by a below average VT team.

So having delay of game penalties is your main complaint at the moment? So that’s why he’s not HC material in your opinion? Yet his overall W/L record says otherwise. He’s 16-14 and has yet to having a losing record in 2 years (1 full). Are there some issues that need to be addressed? Yes. But from a talent level standpoint, if GT can hold onto this class and get some Portal additions, next year is a 9 win season.

Name some realistic options GT can get to replace CBK in your mind? From all rumors, 3 current CFB HC’s turned GT down for one reason or another less than 2 years ago.
16-14? That's your ööööing standard? Really? 16-14? öööö THAT LOW EXPECTATIONS HAVING LOSER öööö RIGHT THERE.

And "if GT can hold onto this class and get some Portal additions, next year is a 9 win season" is pure HORSE öööö. NO ONE holds onto their class. Not Bama. Not t-OSU. EVERYONE loses folks. Might as well say "if Margot Robbie shows up nekked at my front door, Tech will win the Nattie next year," since you're talking about impossible öööö that will never happen.

I mean, isn't that the problem, that GT isn't as good as some think we should be? To be honest, asking "Who do we replace the coach with?" is a cop out argument. That's not our job, that's Batt's. As you pointed out, say who would of been (or would be in the future) a better hire is pure speculation no matter who you name. All we can do is judge what has actually happened with the person who is here and it's not set up for a favorable judgement.

I don't think our guys played hard. I get that Philo looked better than Pyron, but he also scored 0 points so there should be exactly that much hype about that performance from him.
Eh…better start and he’d have had at least 6. We went for it in their territory quite a bit.

The tougher schedule excuse went out the window after it became clear that FSU sucks.
So 1 team makes an entire ACC schedule? The fact that Syracuse and Duke are better than expected neutralizes how bad FSU and NCSU are. Then add in ND, Miami (I still don’t believe Miami is a Top 10 team), uga.

Rest of the opposition is what was predicted. VT is a good, not great team. Same applies to UofL.

GT isn’t a 6-7 win team? Did you really expect more than that when looking at the schedule? Anyone who thought GT was more than that before week 0 was running off hope vs reality. The team is still rebuilding from the mess. 2025 was always highlighted as the prove it year based on recruiting and schedule.
