Other Schools' Coaching Changes [Now with Colorado's Deion]

Not really bared out in history: before helmets we had multiple deaths from head injuries. I believe we'd see the same if we got rid of helmets now.
Plastic surgeons and dentists would also do a booming business. I can't see this as a solution to CTE issues.

I’ve lurked around here for way way longer than I’ve been registered, but this thread is hilarious. Starts with Deion as one would assume based on the subject, then goes to Gibbs, and now it is on players safety gear lol. That said, I’m all for Deion and thanks for the good info a sidewalk fan like me can find on this forum!

Thank you, already the front-runner for rookie post of the year.

This thread needs to be about Coach Prime and only Coach Prime

So you're the one

Gibbs is shifty with nice agility but a horrible blocker and looks like a bit of a quitter, to boot. I wasn't impressed with what I saw vs Texas. He may just end up being a glorified KR/PR.
Yeah, simultaneously a Rich Man's and Poor Man's Darren Sproles imo

As much as I’d like to see it, it won’t happen. Deon is a lot smarter than a lot of people think. Tech would have to agree to make a lot of concessions on scholarships to kids the hill won’t accept. And they’d have to pony up a generous salary for him and a generous salary for staff.
Basically agree to act in a competitive manner. I don’t honestly see Tech ever doing that. Depressing pessimism by me I know. But IIWII until drastic changes are made.
Just hire someone halfway competent.

Here is my argument for Deion to be our next Head Football Coach.

1. Name recognition Recruiting
No one not named Saban could garner the attention from parents and students alike like Sanders. I argue that Dieon could get as much if not more than Nick. With CDS we would not have to beg potential players to visit. He pulled a five star recruit from committing to FSU to go to Jackson state. We have never had a 5 star recruit come to Tech. An up and coming coach would not be able to get recruiting started until they proved they were a great coach. CDS would recruit well immediately. His presence would be a bit of a media circus but in a good way.

2. The Press loves him.
We haven’t had a coach garner favorable press since Bobby Dodd. He would bring national attention that an up and coming coach could not. Chadwell, Shawn Clark and Matt Rhule could be good at Tech but none of them would generate a media splash. It's hard to find a negative article regarding his coaching. Most importantly the media WANTS him to be successful. There is some talk about him going to Nebraska or Auburn but I doubt those programs would take a chance with a 55 year old coach.

3. CDS will probably only get one shot at a head coaching job at a P5 school.
He is 55 years old and if hired will most likely not jump for another school after building up a team at Tech. He knows Atlanta very well and to say the least Atlanta knows Deion. I suspect other schools are not willing to give him a shot. If we give him a chance I suspect he would be loyal to Tech for the remainder of his coaching career. According to some internet searches he is “old school” in his coaching style.

4. He can coach.
He is results oriented. Not the Collins type but real substantial deliver or else. CDS has been around tons of coaches and he knows what it takes to be successful and win. Accord to his peers he knows what he is doing. I doubt other coaches would be throwing shade on him. Remember the anonymous coach comments regarding Geoff from ACC media days. That would end IMO. It appears he knows how to handle players and his staff. I doubt there are many coaches that can draw from previous locker room and practice experience like he can. His football IQ is from direct experience on and off the field. No one else can say they played at a top ten college football team and succeed in the pros like he has. With his experience with the Pros I would suspect he wouldn’t have a difficult time getting top notch coordinators.

Just my opinion. Tell me what you think.

1. CGC was considered a great recruiter with a top 15 class at GT to back it up.
2. The press loved CGC at first.
3. Who cares if we're a stepping stone? At least that would mean we're good.
4. Collins worked for Saban and actually has a better resume for coaching success than Deon.

Deon is high risk high reward. I'm not sure he's the right hire. He could be and, if Todd is doing the hiring, I could see that being who we go after.

YES...No doubt this would be awesome. No one else in college football would bring that level of excitement. All recruits would be excited for a call or visit. Let's have our high school coaches scoff at him and say "This is bulldog country" like they have done to all our coaches after Dodd. I doubt they would have the balls to say that to Deion. He is a legend.
Can he coach? Can't be worse than the current court jester we have pacing our sideline.
He wouldnt have to be able to coach. He just needs to be able to bring assistants in that can out scheme and out coach the competition with the assumption that players will gravitate to Georgia Tech Univ.

I do not understand the love affair Tech fans have with Gibbs. He is a quitter. Doesn't bode well for a long/productive NFL career. NFL RBs are a dime a dozen. He'll need to get extremely lucky by being drafted by a NFL team with a good situation for him.
This is the truth. He quit last year with two games still to be played. Everybody knows it. NFL scouts know it.
