Other Schools' Coaching Changes [Now with Colorado's Deion]

Since Dodd, hires I thought were good and hires I thought were bad at the time they were announced.

Good: Pepper, Ross, Lewis, O’Leary, Gailey
Bad: Carson, Fulcher, Curry, Johnson and Collins

I was wrong on one good hire (Lewis) and wrong on one bad hire (Johnson). There are no sure things.
True, but all you can do is up the odds on the "sure thing".......like, having done it before.

The 'Top' 2017 Coaching Hires:

Jimbo Fisher - Still employed. Massively overrated.
Scott Frost - Ded.
Chip Kelly - Still there, but even with 6-0 this year, still below .500
Kevin Sumlin - Ded
Willie Taggart - Ded
Jeremy Pruitt - Ded
Chad Morris - Ded
Joe Moorehead - Ded
Mario Critobal - Moved "Up" to Miami
Jonathan Smith - Still are Oregon State, but about a .400 win pct.
Matt Luke - Ded
Herm Edwards - Ded

But "Go GEt a SuRE ThiNg!!!"

Speaking of which, Jimbo Fisher is 'walking dead'; but look at his buyout:
  • 2022: $85,950,000
  • 2023: $76,800,000
  • 2024: $67,550,000
  • 2025: $58,200,000
  • 2026: $48,750,000
  • 2027: $39,200,000
  • 2028: $29,550,000
  • 2029: $19,800,000

I think there are some sad Texas A&M boosters right now. :drink1:

I wonder if Texas A&M is still doing that cult like pep rally before each game now that they are 3-4 and have lost to Appalachian State and the mighty South Carolina Gamecocks.

Jimbo can just go through the motions and somewhere around the middle of 2023, perhaps into 2024, when aTm decides to pull the trigger he is set up for life.

Nobody cares lol….you’ll never get offered. This is embarrassing

Goodness. We now have the worst contract ever given out in any sport at any level.

I am also a Michigan State fan and Mel Tucker, unfortunately, has a very similar contract. $95 large straight-up guaranteed. Tucker hasn't fully flamed out like Fisher has, yet, but I think there's something fundamentally wrong with guaranteeing generational wealth, results irrelevant, to a coach in a cut-throat sport like CFB. There is absolutely zero chance that it doesn't run through these guys' heads that, after decades of grinding through the coaching ranks, they'll live like literal kings no matter what they do. Personal pride only goes so far when you know that your great-grandchildren will be living off the passive income from your contract.

They were talking about it on Staples just now. All of these guys have öööö you money contracts. Jimbo, Tucker, Franklin, Jesus even Cristobal at Miami. And he got the öööö kicked out of him by Duke. It's ridiculous. Something's gotta give here.

The Everything-Bubble hit CFB last year. These legitimately unhinged coach contracts will be talked about like pets dot com and Initech in a few years.

Tucker's contract at MSU came from 2021 mortgage industry money, for reference

Jimbo has an NC to his name. TAMU finished 9-1 2 years ago, and had the #1 recruiting class last year. Most logical people including Staples himself thought TAMU was overrated before the season, and that 2023 is the prove it year for Jimbo.

His buyout is HUGE, but they have the deep pockets to buy him out if needed after the 2023 season.

No contract compares to Hewitt. That remains the dumbest in history (smartest by Hewitt and his agent).

Who's writing these checks? Moreso, who's writing the check to buy him out? I think Malzahn got the biggest buyout check, correct? That was probably $22 million. We're talking FOUR TIMES that for Jimbo and Tucker. Jesus. No way if I had billions would I write that check. Trillions. Just absolutely no way.

I was too young to have an opinion in Carson, Fulcher or Pepper (although I thought Pepper was "OK" at Kansas and pretty good at UCLA, and I liked him personally when I met him . . . but who didn't?).

Otherwise . . .

I liked CPJ, CBR and GOL.

I did not like CBC, B*** Lewis, CCG, and really did not like CGC.

I don't think I missed on any of them . . . although I **guess** CCG is debatable.

You seem to have fairly good intuition. If a HC announcement is made tomorrow who's good, who's bad?

Key
Sanders
Mullen
Sanders ain't coming here. Zero chance. People need to just stop with this bull öööö.

Key would be bad. Not as bad as GGC, but bad. Mullen would be worse.

There are soooooooo many better options than any of these guys. Can we afford them? Would they come here? I don't know.

2020-2021 was completely off the rails. It was an insane financial orgy the likes of which we may never see again, and I say this as someone who made a lot of money off GameStop and Bitcoin. There's no explaining it in rational terms.
