Players in the Portal [Official "They Gone" Thread]

I don't want the players who think they need to upgrade from Tech to a Bama or some other momentarily better team to have success. Not a cope--I think winners have self-confidence and relish a challenge. They don't want things to be easy.

That said, I won't blame any player for considering transferring during a coaching transition. Some of the players may be here because they wanted to play for certain coaches who are no longer at Tech. I would more blame our administration (or new coaches) for not retaining them.

School loyalty is why I cheer. Why care for an Adult. No more kids 18 years old and they are free agents then.

I love the idea of Tech.I’m a math teacher and Tech has been the pinnacle of excellent athletics by intelligent people(especially in STEM) in the last 60 years. Let’s him that can be cool again.
Let’s hope I mean.

I see the Mods moved the thread. Are y’all pussies afraid that Nate McCollum could see it or something?

Since scholarships are basically a contract, at some point schools need to add a buyout clause to make jumping to the portal more risky.
good idea, let the SA or the new team reimburse 1 year of NIL,tuition, room, board, etc

The odds of making a solid living in the NFL if you can’t start on our current roster are???? Good or not good?

It’s difficult to feel the fan loyalty to players like the good old days of CFB. It feels a lot like the pros growing up where whenever I found a favorite player on a team, they were traded the next year or had a contract demand that resulted in them going elsewhere.

CFB feels like that now. I really don’t get favorite players anymore and I get truly vindictive at the guys who jump ship. I hope they fail wherever they go because they gave up on Tech.

Can the school pull their scholarships effective immediately? Kick them off campus, deactivate their buzzcards so they can't access anything, and give them incompletes for any classes they were in this semester. öööö em.

Definitely we can. I can't imagine any coach or player with any reasonable alternative would want to come here after we do such a thing, and we'd certainly be sanctioned by the NCAA and possibly even sued, but the school is capable of doing it.

One more thought. I went to Georgia Tech because I thought it was the best school available to me. I could have easily gone to Georgia State or Clayton State; but I chose the school I thought was the best because academics were emphasized in my home. Right now we aren't the best in football, not even close to the best. If football/athletics have been emphasized to these players while they were being raised; it makes sense for them to go to their best sports option. Many players aren't here for the degree, that is why they require so much supervising and academic assistance to even stay eligible. Plus, if they go somewhere else and get a less valuable degree or no degree at all and end up unsuccessful in life, for many that can be written off as oppression. You can't expect players to place the same value on education you have when many of them come from backgrounds that emphasizes athletics over academics and writes off everyone's personal failures as the results of systematic oppression.

What is the NCAA going to sanction us for? They have no power anymore anyway.

And again, sued for what? These players have said they are no longer interested in holding up their end of the deal. Ok then, the deal is cancelled, and they can be escorted out just like Geoff and T Stan.

The NCAA wants players to be able to transfer freely and made a rule to that effect. If we deliberately and publicly make it as onorous as possible for players to do that, they will sanction us. And they do still have power, they can still take away scholarships and impose fines.

The only reason schools capping payments to players at cost of attendance is legal is because they are considered amateur students who also play football, not employees who are there mainly for football.

If we say that we are going to treat them just like the football employees we pay millions of dollars to, then it will definitely lead to an antitrust lawsuit. Schools are doing everything in their power to prevent it from looking like they treat their players just like they treat their coaches and ADs. That's why the NCAA instituted the free transfer rule in the first place.

No, apparently Fritz was option C and we may be going to option D or E now.

Are you always this vindictive? None of your ideas will work. You would be fighting a battle that in the end would make us a worse football team. If they want to transfer then let ‘‘em go.

your ideas would result in a players union which would go on strike a lot.
