Post-Game: What Positives Should We Take Away from the Game?

People, people, people!

ONE bad call at the end of the game or else Tech is 1-0 and has a better record than LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Clemson, Indiana, Louisiana, Washington, Dooks . . .

It's a long season. This is not the end of the world. There will be better days.

Agree....but let's be honest, it should NEVER come to that. Team played hard. That's all we got.

For one thing, the fellas never gave up. They got down, but they fought back and took the lead. One bad call at the end or it's in the W column. And that was with our backup QB.

For another thing, we did not miss any extra points. Three for three.

Also, the kickoffs were deep.

So there was some improvement.

What else?

That this season is finite.

You need to keep track of your own posts. You just said I was wrong when I said you didn't get laid. So that means you did. For like 150 seconds maybe, but that's still something!

Anyway, you'll be a lot less angry and bitter, and a lot more positive about Tech football and life in general, IF you start getting regular service (and your own hand doesn't count). Good luck!
Ok clown. Again, go öööö yourself

Lol. Yeah, we weren’t playing Clemson or UGA. We were playing NIU. We shouldn’t have had to rely on a review to make or break this game. That should have been a consolation garbage time TD against our 2nd/3rd string for them. Not a GD game winner.

At least the team will know they suck and have a lot of hard work to do to get better. But I would think that they already knew this from the past two seasons. But, then again, maybe CGC is too busy blowing smoke up their asses telling them how special they are.

If we lose next week, it should be obvious to our AD that keeping the current coordinators will cost us more than replacing them. Fortunately the coordinators fo not have the long term contract the head coach has.

I'm curious what this would mean for our assistants. I'd assume some would be kept, but most coordinators worth a damn want to bring in some of their own people. Like I'm not sure how easy it would be to bring in a good OC if you're telling him he has to retain the OL coach, RB coach, and WR coach.

On offense promote Coach Choice. On defense I do not see an easy solution in season. It is a mess.

Random thoughts in no particular order from Section 224:

NIU wanted it more. NIU outcoached GT's coordinators all game long in all three phases. Both teams set back the art of offensive passing 30+ years. Anything further than 15 yards down field for NIU was a high wobbling duck that made coaches visibly pucker on the NIU sideline. Jeff Sims couldn't throw it in the ocean before he was injured. Backup Jordan Yates looked like a star just being able to hit a 10 yard crossing route reliably by comparison.

For the first time since Chan Gailey got boo'ed on the jumbotron doing a drunk driving PSA, I felt the fanbase move markedly away from the staff in a negative fashion. When GT was going to kick a FG on 4th and goal at the 2 the boos were *LOUD*. That was among the loudest fan reactions all night. And they caved, called a timeout, and sent the offense back on the field. I don't think I've ever seen the fans bully a staff into changing their minds before. But there you have it.

Let's see ... catching a TD out of bounds on 4th down ... there goes 7 points.
Missed easy FG ... 10 points.
Missed moderate FG ... 13 points.
Missed desperation but still plausible FG ... 16 points.

Collins now has 2 FCS loses at Temple, 1 FCS loss at GT, and ... let's just call a spade a spade here ... NIU hadn't won a game since November 2019. That's a near FCS loss. That's at best one of the 5 worst loses in living memory. At worst it's a straight up worst 5 loss all time in program history. Collins might be able to recruit ... but he and/or his coordinators can't hack it at the big boy level on game day. That's a thudding near-worst-all-time loss in 4 of Collins' 5 years coaching. I think we can rule out bad luck or overhauling the entire roster at GT as being outliers. Ugly stinky early season losses seem to be a hallmark of Geoff Collins' teams.

If GT loses to Kennesaw State next week, which is now a very real possibility, it should be an instant pink slip for one or both coordinators. That game was an abomination on play calling. Just off the top of my head:
- You'd think somebody would try a screen pass when being faced with a loaded box run blitz most downs. None was ever attempted that I can recall.
- The GT defense looked like they'd never seen a hurry-up out of huddle before. Even after seeing it for 3 quarters they still looked like they'd never seen it before.
- The GT defense got beat by effectively two plays all night: two stacked TE overload off tackle .... and shallow crossing routes / posts out of the slot. GT was defending the slot receiver in a way I have literally never seen done before. The slot was usually unguarded at the line and the responsibility of the free safety. I literally have no plausible explanation for that defense. You shouldn't need to review a lot of tape to scout the GT defense's shortcomings.

Some consistent storylines (talking points?) from the offseason were completely blown up:
- Return to sender on the TN transfer at kicker. Don't want to see another kick all year. Not only did he *ss plant himself on one, but they were *ALL* low. Good teams with good DLs will block that trash all day. Teach the Irish kid to kick a FG ... he had plenty of Lucky Charms in his punting leg.
- The offense line has made no progress beyond less penalties. #70 in white got has *ss handed to him all game by NIU. I counted at least 3 times he whiffed his defender entirely letting him go clean untouched and at least another three were he was introduced rudely to the turf.
- The defense line has made no apparent progress. Remember hearing Dominick or Clayton or Chimedza being called? Me neither. I don't recall a single sack. And scarcely any real QB pressure.
- GT WRs still have a nasty case of the drops. All of 'em. No really, every last single one of them. I can easily recall four dropped first downs.

If I'm an NIU fan I'd like a word with my offensive coordinator. You were running the ball all night. You had the ball down 7 with 7:30 left in the game. And you air raid and then do a slow edge rush to try to win the game?!? They didn't even hurry huddle that series, which felt like a gimme to get 4/5 yards on a run whenever they wanted. It felt like NIU giving the game away. They learned the lesson on the next drive though and kept it on the ground between the tackles mostly and returned to the hurry huddle.

Sean Bedford should take over the radio pre/post game. He pulls no punches and calls it like it is. As you'd expect from a Paul Johnson player. Hey, speaking of Paul Johnson .... we've tried can coach his ass off and not recruit and now we seem to be trying can recruit his ass off and not coach. Maybe a happy medium wouldn't be out of the question someday? Hmmm?

With this schedule, stick a fork in this season. 3 wins might again be the ceiling. Coordinator changes *must* happen if that is the outcome. Looks like another season of watching other teams and ESPN Goal Line predominately for me.

That would be true if it weren’t obvious that we are a poorly coached team and won’t improve.

That I didn’t watch what turned out to have been a dumpster fire.

Jesus. Bragging about crossing the 50. Against NIU. That's... I don't have a comparison for that. That's just sad.
I can’t watch the video. Did he really say that…? Please tell me that’s a ööööing joke.
