ugh... The only one worth a damn is the throwback. Oh well. Winning matters more then looking good anyways.

I think anything that's a change is good by me. It'll drive the point home that this is a new team.

:biggthumpup:I'll say AMEN to a tradition of winning.

And BTW, I think all three variations of Jerseys and both helmets are kick-ass.

1st choice...white helmets, white jerseys, gold britches

2nd choice...gold helmets, white jerseys, gold britches

ALL other...waaaay down the list.

For those that don't like the new uniforms, I think it would be best to reserve judgment until at least a better photo appears or until the players wear them out on the field. The contrast and color balance of these cell phone shots are all out of whack. I think the gold striping and piping on the blue should look better than it does in that photo because the blue should be much brighter and the gold should be slightly darker than what you see here. The blue is black in this shot. You still might not like it, but it won't be as bad. Personally, I'm fine with it, though I'd keep the navy jersey as an alternate and ask for opposing permission to play with the white as the home jersey most of the time because I still prefer it over the navy.

I agree with GoldenTornado in that Tech pulls off the modern look better than other schools because our school has colors that complement each other well. It's still clean for a non-traditional looking jersey, largely because we kept traditional block typefaces instead of the typeface used for the 2001-03 jerseys. The reason why Miami and Oregon jerseys don't look good are the typeface and color. VT jerseys don't look good because of the color and that occasional alternate sleeve abomination. Clemson, apart from having really loud colors, has that ugly drop shadow beneath the numerals. WVU uses an unpleasant typeface and yellow bleeds and contrasts too much with navy.

Back to our new uniforms, I definitely like the white helmet. Also, good call on not allowing the gold helmet and gold jersey combination.

I believe it's Jimmy Southards' son who has stuff from when his dad played that has posted some of this on the Hive. There's no question it's true from what I've seen on a number of sites FWIW. Just pointing out that what we think of as tradition isn't always the way we like to remember. To me, Tech is still the team I grew up watching in the late 60s, with Kim King wearing the white helments with either gold jerseys/white pants or white jerseys/gold pants.

Do you know any of Southard's sons?

i personally think those two on the left look awful. Mainly because of the line that goes across the chest. I can't tell if the gold one has that or not. Overall I'm disappointed, but whatever works for the players works for me.

I'm with you, Ty. That gold ain't right and the lines across the chest...well, they just suck.

I don't care if we break out the gold or white helmets....as long as we get the blue jerseys!

I think they would all look great except the gold jersey/helmet combo. That's my only problem with our current uniforms the shiny gold tops with the darker helmet look horrible.

I am excited.

I'm fairly sure I read a post here or on TOS that said that combination wouldn't happen. I might be remembering wrong.

I like Tech's current uni's, but admittedly, I'm a fan of the old school look as opposed to the modern look. That said, I wouldn't mind Tech updating the uniforms as long as they don't look like new NHL jerseys, which is what that picture implies. The chest piping is needless, and is properly a bad theme which will carry into the pants as well.

You're right..that was stated on the Machine's website.. where this picture was taken from. I think any combination of these besides Gold/Gold will look amazing

No why? You don't believe that a former player's family might frequent message boards?

Just curious as to whether or not we have mutual friends. That's all.

I'm somewhat surprised although that any of them would visit the Hive. Neither of the three went to Tech and never seemed to be keen enough fans to do what we do on these boards. I'll have to give 'em a call though I just saw one of them last Sunday night.

Lol, he could have seen it on The Machine. There's a link in this thread somewhere.

Am I misunderstanding Adamm's website? He mentions that the blue jersey is not an option. This leaves the white jersey and the gold one for special occasions. I think this is a bummer, as I like the blue.

Oh well, I'll be happy if we go to Gold hats, white jerseys, and gold pants 100% of the time. I'm fine with the unis being modernized, as well.

It is a shame, though. I must be mistaken about the blue jerseys. They seem like they would just look so good.

I am very happy we aren't going to see the gold hat & mustardy gold jerseys combo. That gold we were wearing had too much green in it and we blended into the field at night. There was no contrast there, and we never showed up well on TV.

Pink and Black?

Posting on the subject of "official colors" and how every school uses white even though it isn't official. (The rationale is that is why we need a third color.)

So I looked up Penn State to see if they had a third color other than Blue and White. The Wiki article says that Penn State's official colors were originally Pink and Black (imagine those football uniforms.)

The baseball team's uniforms faded to white and dark blue, so they changed the official colors to match the uniform. (I guess athletic budgets were tighter in those days.)
