The Diesel # 21 hating on Tech

Damn I critcized Philthy for taking them internets too seriously... Damn I got taken.

Well played Philthy!!!!!

I slide you a cyber beer.

I appreciate everything Dwyer did while he was here. I'm happy he chose to play here and thankful that he decided to give PJ's offense a chance instead of bolting to some place else where he could play in a pro-style offense. The only really bad play I ever remember him having (besides a fumble here and there) was the play late against Iowa, but even then the intentions were good.

With all that said, I'm afraid he didn't do his homework prior to coming to Tech. Going off of GACollege411's site that hasn't been updated in a year, we have roughly 13,000 undergrads with 32% from out of state, while UGA has over 26,000 undergrads with only 15% from out of state. Once you consider that it's like this every year, and a UGA degree is easier to achieve, and it's obvious that we have no chance of approaching the size of their fanbase. There is a broader range of majors at UGA, therefore it appeals to a broader range of students and potential SA's, leading to a competitive advantage...which leads to more wins. More wins = more fan support.

I'm sorry for Dwyer that it doesn't appear he was aware of this prior to coming, but the fans aren't to blame.

Even in the year when VPI, Clemson, and UGA are not on our home schedule, our attendance was about 86% of capacity. The number of tickets sold to away teams was very small. We went 6-6. The three games I attended - Duke, NCSU, and SC State - had supportive crowds. I was disappointed that students arrive late and leave early. But, all in all, the atmosphere is positive and the fan support good.

In our conference I believe our fan base is stronger than the U, unles they are undefeated, Duke, Wake, UVA, BC, and Maryland. We are behind NCSU and UNC, but not by much. FSU, Clemson, and Va Tech have stronger fan bases and larger stadiums. FSU and Clemson have had a lot of empty seats the past three years, however.

We are not UGA, UT, UF, Bama, LSU, or Auburn. Comparing us to them is pointless. They have huge stadiums and large fan bases. But, they are not more supportive of their teams when they are not winning than we are at Tech.

Jon Dwyer going public to criticize Tech fans is unfortunate. He is entitled to his opinion. He sounds like a young man with some bitterness toward the fans of the school he attended. I am sorry, and wish him well. I just wish he would refrain from saying negative things about Georgia Tech football.

Where did the myth of UGA fans supporting the team through thick and thin come from anyway?

If they do show and the dawgs aren't winning, then the dawgs on the field sure as hell hear about it, from the stands and everywhere else.

The victim mentality has got to go and I don't really care who is expressing it.

Play the games like you are ready from the start and you care who wins and GT fans WILL support you WIN OR LOSE. Show up halfway through the second quarter and pull out half the games you should have won by the skin of your teeth and people start to wonder why they should care if you don't.

Take care of business on the field and you don't have to worry about the business in the stands. It will take care of itself.

That is the point that irritates me most, that some have bought into the idea that there is any other fanbase that is unconditionally supportive.

Hell, LSU fans aren't even happy when they are winning if they are winning ugly. Lots of them are griping that Les is more lucky than good and it will ultimately show. And all he has done is win a champioship for them.

Glad Phil was apparently kidding, love seeing my fellow Tampa kids do well up there and enjoy GT since it blows away any education we have in my home state. I've actually seen athletes around here complain how the fans question the play calls, coaching, etc. Well from a fan point of view we would love to talk directly to the players and coaches about the games, but most of us don't have that kind of access so we amuse ourselves by debating each other about it. Pretty sure nobody here claims they know more than any of the players/coaches.

This is exactly what the players are talking bout. Here you go "I'm a Tech elitist, he need to correct his grammar" bull****. Take it for it is worth and understand what he saying. Get on these boards everyday bitching and moaning bout why we can't get elite recruits, why we can't take the next step in becoming a great team, when you fans are not doing your part. Guys, this is your former 4* RB, who you loved and adored, showing displeasure with the fan with another 4* saying he like this status. And what y'all fail to realize is that in the social media world, I can promise you guys like Vad Lee and Jabari Hunt-Days are FB friends or they are following Dwyer on Twitter and when they see stuff like this it will make think and wonder why should I come to Tech if the players are/were don't like it. Maybe it is time to look in mirror my friends.

You're preaching to the wrong folks on here.

And maybe former players shouldn't say stuff that undermines the program in public. And maybe fans shouldn't be too harsh on the internet.

If you have a career in pro-sports, keep one rule in mind:
When players attack the fans, you lose fans. Period. If you think its okay to do that, think again, because you're doing more to hurt the program than ten dozen empty seats.

Have Tech fans repeatedly bought billboards attacking receivers who drop passes? Do you know that U[sic]GA fans have?

Do we hire coaches who oversign and then run players off like Alabama?

Do we curse you when you don't win more than six games, like Bama fans do when their team only wins 9, or Florida 7, or LSU 10? My brother played college ball, and if you think you have it bad at Tech from the fans, you have no idea.

That said, I don't think fans can really "complain" about 6-6. I get being upset at that, but our attendance % of capacity was better than UNC, FSU, and Miami this year.

It isn't elitist to expect that a person given a scholarship to attend an elite university will know how to spell and write. For what it is worth, I would agree that Tech does a poor job teaching those things. That, however, doesn't change my point.

Generally, the folks on this message board come to a lot of games, and some of us have to get on a plane to do it. So take your complaints somewhere else. I agree that personal criticisms go too far. But most is positive and you're going to deal with morons the rest of your life.

I don't do facebook which probably makes understanding what he said all the more difficult.

But from what I gathered, dwyer hasn't paid much attention in any level of school he's attended.

That kid is absolutely embarrassing himself. What a shame. How the hell do you get out of school with that grammar or get in to GT. Dwyer, shut your trap.

Maybe that FB post should run 20 yards in the wrong direction. The fact remains that Jon Dwyer chose to go pro rather than stick it out one more year at Tech. I cannot blame him, because he was looking at a lot of money before the draft. But that also means that he cannot criticize the fanbase for basically doing the same thing he did. I enjoyed watching him play when he was here, but he's no longer a student, he's not an alumni, and posts like that make me wonder if he's even a fan. So he can take his atrocious, embarrassing grammar and politely shut the **** up.

What worries me the most is Dwyer's line "the players have been talking about this for years". So apparently we've got a lockerroom full of guys who are worried about how many fans are going to show up, instead of winning games. Here's a hint guys, one directly influences the other.

Jon DwyerIts a shame bc no matter wat UGA tennesse or anybodies record they have a packed out game no matter wat bc they are loyal fans came to games last yr bc we where winning..that shoes more and more how hypocritical ppl are and just like kyle jackson until we get pack out games u can kiss the fact of being on college gamed...ay and receiving big time recruits goodbye..it also has the effects on the players

I re-read his initial FaceBook post. Is he calling Kyle Jackson hypocritical, too?

I haven't the time right now to view all 20 and counting pages of this horrorfest but isn't Jon on meds for ADHD or something? Pretty sure I've heard that before.
