The Geoff Collins Effect!

So Collins couldn't take a roster full of NFL talent (according to you) and win more than 15 games in two years against a weak schedule. Very telling. And couldn't take the talent that CPJ took to a bowl and beat the Citadel with it.....

Weak schedule relative to what?

By your logic, Pitt should be a perennial 11 win team regardless of losing their 1st QB and other drafted players.

If you don't understand that the schedule of an AAC team does not rival that of any P5 team then you need to start over in your understanding of college football. So to answer your question, relative to any P5 schedule.

Measuring coaches by NFL players or recruiting rankings is a nice way of deflecting conversations away from win-loss records. Win some damn games and we can all dance/ jump around like idiots on the sideline for all I care. Reverse the order and we look like complete morons. Celebrating while getting our asses kicked is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen on The Flats, but apparently it’s trendy and makes some feel all warm
and gooey inside.

Hey we rule the State of Kennesaw at least!

I guess it is just coincidence that GT best seasons coincides with the number guys that are drafted

That didnt transfer to another school while at Tech because of bad coaching

This is an important consideration. Recruiting has been only marginally better under Collins thus far, despite a significant increase in resources, staff, and emphasis, and we lost the biggest “get” to a better program after two seasons. During that same span, we saw several players who used to be good or at least promising (e.g., Juanyeh) regress for some reason, and our overall on-field performance has tanked. There are a lot of other factors at play, but these are not encouraging signs.

Our strategy this year seems to be to try to make up for high school recruiting with portal recruiting, but most of our portal recruits for the last couple of years weren’t standouts, so I have some concerns about how well it’s going to work trying to build a cohesive and effective team out of portal transfers that have a better than average likelihood of being busts, malcontents, or mercenaries.

What’s our coach’s excuse then? Way more kids drafted, way fewer wins. Must be gross incompetence.

You do realize this is the first year his class is eligible to be drafted?

Look no further than the OL. What was left behind and the lack of growth/cohesion of that unit.

Yeah. It went through more coaching changes after two years than we have in 20. The entire makeup of the program was Frankenstein's monster. Isn't "muh coaching" your entire argument? Shouldn't you consider churning through coaching staffs a problem?
I consider beating a dead horse a bigger problem.

Yeah I know, he’s completely incapable of developing the guys he inherited. He’s not capable of winning either. If we don’t recruit like Satan, he doesn’t have a chance. Just like Key, if he doesn’t have top players he can’t do a damn thing except roll out the excuse machine, dance, spot the ball for the refs, wave stupid signs, lead the cheer squad, etc. He’s had more advantages than any other GT coach ever, finds himself setting the wrong records.

Since 2000, we have had the most players drafted in a single draft was in 2004 (5) when we went 7-5, and had gone 7-6 the two years prior.

We had 1 player drafted following the 2016 9-4 season.

We had 3 players drafted following the 2014 11-3 season. We also had 3 players drafted following the 2013 season 7-6 season.

We had 4 players drafted following the 2008 9-4 season, and 4 drafted following the 2009 11-3 season.

We had 2 players drafted following the 2006 9-5 season. We also had 2 players drafted following the 2015 3-9 season and the 2021 3-9 season.

We had 0 players drafted following the 2000 9-3 season.

We had 3 players drafted following the 1998 10-2 season. We also had 3 players drafted following the 2007 7-6 season and 2005 7-5 season.

We had 2 players drafted following the 1990 NC season. We had 3 players drafted following the 1994 1-10 season.

We had 3 players drafted following the 1985 9-2 season. We also had 3 players drafted following the 1983 3-8 season.

Our 2nd most draft picks ever was 9 following the 1945 season. We went 4-6.

And you talking about reading comprehension. This is very clear we are talking about 2008- present

This is not emphasized enough. We really will never know how much talent CPJ left because the roster has been so poorly coached and trained. Was the OL talent that bad, or is it just that CBK is worse than Sewak? I am confident Sewak could have done more with the OL talent that was left; but then so could most P5 OL coaches. The real deficit that CPJ left was DL, that hasn't been fixed at all. All the Juice Drinkers want to talk about how hard it is to transition from the TO; what about the Defense? Did the Defense go through the toughest transition in football history too? Everyone thought we were pretty well set in the secondary going into 2019, WTH happened?

I find it odd that the 1952 team with about 6 All-Americans is not anywhere in your list.

DL deficit wasnt in the same stratosphere as the OL whether physically or mentally. Lol Sewak didn’t do anything with the guys he had for 9 outta 11yrs.

DL took a hit with Adam’s untimely death. Learning how to pass rush vs. an OL who doesn’t know how to pass set was a big transition. Outside of that, it was just bad teaching and players not doing their responsibilities.

Why does it always come down to this? Why can't we all just agree that Collins ööööing sucks? Who gives a öööö about CPJ. He is ööööing gone if you haven't noticed. The guy here now, today, like right this very minute, epicly sucks, like horrifically bad. Make any excuse you want, it doesn't change the fact that he ööööing sucks, like in a really bad way.

Great post pointing out what everyone who doesn't have their head firmly inserted already knows. A few cherry pick a couple of data points because they have an agenda, but those following the program for decades know otherwise. Not sure why they get so lathered up about everything besides wins & losses, but I guess it's easier than facing the reality of the bed we've made here.

Excellent point. Our defense is troublesomely way out of position multiple times every game under Thacker. It’s obvious the guy is way in over his head. It’s not just the front 4 are ineffective.

Yet he was retained. That falls squarely on the head man.
