You realize he’s the reason they have an NFL defence, right?Sure. Let’s see how he does without his NFL defense. Most anybody on the board could coach their defense today.

I don’t think Venables would come to GT. We are just too far down. I think it will have to be a FCS coach looking to make a name for themselve.
Show him the money, committment and resources and he will come....not sure we can and that is the problem.
Can he run the option? Only way tech ever wins a game again is option.Only if Kurt Warner comes in to play QB.

Well he is part and a great coordinator. It's pretty easy to get those guys to come live at Disneyland when $10000 is on the low side if you run into a booster. You realize he’s the reason they have an NFL defence, right?
Not to mention, say we get him... once Dabo ships off to Bama when Saban retires, Venables is heading "back home" and taking the job. We currently have a coach who WANTS to be here. That is rare and should be respected. This has nothing to do with his talent or whether or not he should retain his job, but that is a huge perk we seem to ignore.
He wants to be here because he is floating into retirement at a cut of $3m per year.
One of three things happens with Venables. From worst to best:
- he sucks as much as CPJ has
- he’s good and leaves later
- he’s good and stays
Even if Venables is a big time success and leaves after a few seasons at least then we are a hot coaching target.

Dude has a CE Degree from Tech. His NFL experience would immediately turn around recruiting. Maybe he could bring back Tenuta.
That doesn't explain why he turned down Auburn and other coaching gigs early in his career while at Tech.

Wanting to be here is important. That is why Whisenhunt, McIntyre and Godsey have been mentioned as candidates. Not to mention, say we get him... once Dabo ships off to Bama when Saban retires, Venables is heading "back home" and taking the job. I don't know. A couple of years ago when PJ was on the AJC podcast with Zach Klein he mentioned the fact that he had been offered about half a dozen Power 5 jobs. Of course he didn't say which ones but I've always assumed that Auburn was one of them.Never offered crap by auburn. Myth.

How does anyone know those 3 want to be here?
