Wesley Walker to the portal

Real question, what's the most amount of inbound transfers we gained in a season before this one? So far, we're net positive, per 247 (reposting a link that @gtchief posted in the Domineck thread)

I didn’t know losing 10 guys, 8 of them having starting roles last season, would be a net positive

Well now you know.

I didn't know you couldn't understand the concept that they're saying the people coming in are better than the people who left. A whole lot is making sense now.

So perhaps the sky is not falling after all?

No I get that, but we’re losing a ton of depth is what I’m saying. You can have the best 24 players in the world. Won’t mean a thing if a couple of them get injured during the season.

Everybody who understands anything about football understands that. But the state of the college football landscape has changed with the advent of the transfer portal, whether anyone on this board likes it or not.

Want to criticize Collins for not winning games? That's fair game.

Criticize him for losing players to the portal? That's silly.
Alabama lost players in the portal and they played for the NC.
Georgia lost players. They won the NC.
Every team in the country has a lot of players entering the transfer portal. It's the state of the game right now and as, Paul Johnson used to say, "it is what it is".

If I'm hired for a job and my boss underperforms thereby running the company into the ground I would be excited to see new management as long as I was confident in my talent.
Except for the offending boss is still running the ship.

But Alabama is getting a full recruiting class, and have a ton of walk ons, as well as a TON of depth that we don’t have. That’s why they can afford to lose guys and we can’t.

And Alabama has 2700 fans who will take a day off work to show up at the private airport to greet a new incoming head coach's flight on a personal jet. And will fill a 70,000+ stadium in Indianapolis for a game. And can afford to pay 6 figure salaries to multiple "assistants" who were once on-the-field coaches for other programs.

Haves/have nots, etc etc.

Surely you are aware that not everything in life is fair? Don't like it? Step up and start writing large donation checks every year and get all your buddies to do the same. Pay off that $200 million stadium debt albatross and then build up an athletics war chest. Until that happens, all the complaining in the world isn't going to change things. "It is what it is".

Dude, I don't think you realize what I'm saying. Baseball is a lot like college football in many aspects. One of those being the small market vs the big market. Georgia Tech is like the Kansas City Royals, and Alabama is like the New York Yankees. Alabama/New York can afford to have a crappy farm system, lose some depth pieces, and lose a superstar every now and then. Georgia Tech/Kansas City NEED to have a developmental program, as well as keep their depth and keep their rotation guys. Especially keep their starters. UGAg is a lot like how the Braves are. They used to be a small market with a good developmental program. However, a new face came in (Snit and Kirby) and they turned the team into one of the biggest markets in America. They can afford to have a crappy developmental system now since they moved onto the bigger stage.

This is a thread about Wesley Walker transferring and it is replete with people bitching about it. And I'm saying "if you don't like the transfer portal, you might want to pick a different sport to follow" until/unless they change how the portal works. Because it is the new norm.

I think we all understand tremendously that the game has changed, and rather quickly. Is your point just to sit on the sidelines and keep our mouths shut and not say anything? That's what this sounds like. I think anytime we lose a player - of just about ANY magnitude, it hurts us more than others. There's going to be people who say "Ouch"!

Defining tackles doesn't provide context behind his tackle count. I like your helping spirit, though. Maybe you can dig up how many times his receiver was targeted, yards given up on/after catch, etc. I've got his pick count covered so we're good there. Hopefully the stats don't show he was simply picked on for easy yards.

He was on the field 79% of the snaps in games he played in. You just didn’t want to see the talent for some reason, but our head coach did.

Former teammate now at OU sees something in him.

I didn’t know that it’s a terrible thing that you would get upset that one of your best defensive players is gone, especially after losing a ton of other important assets in the team.

But I guess it’s just simple bitching because fans are upset that half the starting line up from last year just left.

Lol. Hard to see a positive when all of of guys we are bringing never made it to the top of their depth chart, and had to transfer to have a chance at seeing the field.

The 2018 team was shut out for a half by Duke and a half by Pitt. Last year's uga would have had a shot at shutting out one of CPJ's weaker teams. But again, there are more choices than the option and whatever Patenaude was attempting to do.
Yea. That wretched 2018 team got shutout for quarters and halves en route to 8 wins,

It was 7 and an embarrassing beat-down in Detroit to a Minnesota team that was 3-6 in the Big 10. How would that team have done against last year's uga? 45-7 maybe? woo hoo. My point is the option wasn't competitive with the current version of uga, either. Where Collins is failing is losing to lousy Coastal teams, so criticize him for that all day long, but arguing we should bring back the option to compete with uga is silly. Collins may not be the answer, but that doesn't mean one of the small handful of option coaches is, either.

Excellent point. Glad we didn't have that opinion when this guy named Tashard Choice transferred from Oklahoma to GT because he was behind that Adrian Peterson guy. Great job setting me straight!

You don't think there are players at Bama, UGAg, LSU, Clemson and about a half dozen or so other programs who can't break into their starting lineup but would start for us?
