Which direction is our program going?

And what were those? All I heard from anyone was we had a small chance of contending for the ACCCG again this year, depending on how the ball bounced. The bar was raised *after* the ND win. Most folks preseason, even buzzoffers, said they'd be happy with 8 wins as long as UGA was one of them, and we're actually on track for that.

8 wins? Nope. Small chance of contending the the ACC, no one thought that. We had a very good chance. This is a 9 or 10 win team. Anything less in unacceptable, the players will be the first to tell you that.

Bond is an improvement, Tenuta stays the same or declines a bit, Gailey is Gailey, recruiting seems better, the QB situation has not improved, the receiver situation is down significantly since Calvin left (no surprise) but worse than anticipated. We seem headed to another 7-5 although 6-6 is not out of the question. Beating Georgia is possible but I just can't see it. Any bowl will be a minor venue.

And Yellow are you happy with that?

Dem,
Others here are also "actively involved". I think your comments are over the top.

Every single person has strengths and weaknesses. Of course we hope that everyone works on their weaknesses to improve. But to guarantee that the only Tech football needs is that last push over the top from a new coach that can do better with on field results is to forget that Chan is pretty good in all the other things. The preparation, the recruiting, the clean program, etc. ALL COULD GET A WHOLE LOT WORSE.

Grass is not greener on the other side of the hill. Now of course, the bashers call that mediocrity. I call it well thought out analysis, etc and eventual proper decision making.

We may or may not end up in the same place, but to suggest that we need a new guy to improve one particular skill, forgetting that that new guy might be horrible in all the other skills, is bad business.

Exellent. I to think Dem and others are over the top with no real answers just accusations of supposed failure by a coach who has had a number of things and fans , I believe working against him.

Let things remain as they are and thing will improve.

What answers do you have my man? What makes you think things will get better? Who says it wont get worse or still stay the same? 6 years is a long tenure. You have tried to call me out numerous times already.

Dem, I just don't see you as a productive Tech fan. As a professed insider, you are tearing the program apart from within with statements like you've made. Win out or not, your statements are BAD for the program. I just don't agree with an insider, who may be a janitor or DRad himself for all I know, trying to effect change in your method. It is just not very teamlike to me.

Regarding risk taker, I guarantee that just about everyone of you are way behind me on risk taking. If all you want is a risk taker...then we will fail miserably just like risk taker ultimately do in the stock market, etc. If you want to throw the dice and risk your life away at 50/50, help yourself. GOOD risk takers actually take out risk or minimize the risk OR maximize the reward first.

Being a head coach is not just making game day decisions any more. It's about working within a budget, it's about "raising kids", it's about recruiting and finding the right kids...Gailey has done a good job on a large portion of his assignment. Considering probation, etc. he still gets a pass on wins/losses. However, I do agree that certain issues and certain games must fall under review later if necessary.

Like I have said before, either you are a Tech fan or not. In midseason, creating controversy for your own good or because you enjoy it, is not being a Tech fan IMO.
Thank you for this post.

I'm still confused as to how demjackets has created this controversy. Do you guys think he is the first person to disagree with our current HC? 98% of his posts have been insightful and given stingtalk the insider knowledge that no other board has....the other 2% express his feelings about gailey, why is this so controversial when half the people on here can't hardly post in the water cooler without bashing chan?

Again, I agree that gailey does a good job on some things...you mentioned working with a budget(altho i credit DRad for this more), "raising kids"(isn't this a parents job?), and recruiting. But he was hired to coach a football team, and win games, and "play for championships"(in his own words)...he is not living up to this end of the deal. There are much better coaches out there in terms of all of the aspects you speak of and more so in this case the grass IS greener on the other side.

VT - win 6-3
Duke - win 7-3
UNC - win 8-3
UGA - loss 8-4
Bowl - win 9-4

what happens if we reach 9 wins this way?

I have called him out because he claims to be an insider to th AA and Truthfully I have a problem with anyone who shows disloyalty to our program publically from the inside. And yes it is a disloyalty to the program when he publically shares discontent . I have no problem with Him having his opinion as we all do, but to do it as an employee of the AA on a public board behind a fictitious name is stepping over the line because he is implying he has a certain credibility when he does, that I think is in appropriate.

If you like finishing in the top 30-50, losing to Georgia 6 years in a row, you are not being a Tech fan IMO.

That is hilarious. I'm pretty sure you two will stand alone with this one.
While I don't agree with their attitude toward you, I stand with them as far as Chan goes. In terms relative to all other teams in our conference, GT is not mediocre.

It pisses me off that they can't beat our rival...at all. But few of our coaches have been able to on a regular basis. However, we should win at least in the years when we are better than them...and the ones where we aren't. They can win all the other years. I don't believe it is for lack of effort, though.

We started to turn a corner last year. We knew this year would be slightly down. It has been, but it isn't over either. Considering the recruiting classes we are beginning to collect, I see success in the future.

Having said all of that, I absolutely hate Chan's coaching style. However, looking back, it is very similar to Coach Dodd's. So, from that standpoint, I'm willing to give them time to get the players in place. You can see the change already in ST. There is a real honest-to-goodness quarterback coming in next year. We're stocked at RB, even after Tashard leaves.

One thing I always try to do is pin people down preseason to expectations, because crap like this always pops up around game 8. A majority of BUZZOFF for christ's sake thought 8 wins with a W over UGA was a successful season this year, losing Calvin, breaking in a new QB with crap for WR talent, good-but-not-great OL, and an all new secondary.

But then we beat ND and THEN the fans started expecting more. It's like that every year. Start expecting X, increase that for every win we get until when we finally lose we've "failed to meet expectations." Last year was especially bad at that, ask any fan if they'd take 9 wins last year preseason, they'da said 'hell yeah,' but then when we started 9-2 the expectations got ratcheted up so our first 9 win season since Godsey was a "disappointment."

I said 8-4 regular season with a W over UGA was a good season. Not great. Coulda done better, but good. I said it then, I say it now, and I know that I'm not changing my target just so I can be pissed off. Some others around here might not be able to say the same thing.

If we go 2-2 over our last 4 and lose to UGA, then yeah, not a good season.

Lets see what happens.

How am I disloyal? I am not claiming to be anything, I share info I have and is it usually wrong? No because it is what I gather, if I was making it up I would be wrong all the time with things. I am not disloyal to the program, I have been around longer then Dan or Chan. Before I started my career guess what, I was a GT fan growing up. I can have my views, I back the program no matter what. I think everyone here can attest to that. Do I think if we want to reach a new level like so many people want out of this program, then we need to go in another direction, yes I think and believe we will have to in order to take it to the next level. I believe I am very loyal, stood up and fought for a lot of things and believe it or not have had a positive impact I am pretty sure around here, I wouldn't be here still would I if I was disloyal for so many years and not putting the best interest at heart, I am as loyal to GT as it gets, but I am a straight shooter and wont pussy foot around things like some of you. Dodd, if it were so bad somebody would most definitely be storming into my office right now.;)

Pre-season expectation of the team was 9 or 10 wins ask the seniors. 8-4 with a senior laden team is not very good.
