Tim Byerly

Besides the current QBs (Swilling, Jordan, Martenson, Campbell), we also have AJ Gray and Jamal Golden who played QB in HS. I think the drop-off from the #2 to #3 QB wouldn't be as much as #1 to #2.

It does hurt us if Tim's injury is season ending. However, what many of you don't know is that while Swilling was in at QB, he made all the right reads and I get this from a very reliable source. I would bet they move Mattew Jordan back to QB before they burn a redshirt.

Here are all of Swilling's snaps in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iPrAvPttmo

Not sure that he made all of the right reads. Didn't seem to have many reads at all actually (QB keeps, draw, rocket toss, etc.). Looked to me like he made a bad read on his first play and mishandled two snaps. Not trying to knock him but losing Tim is a big, big deal.

I have to admit and this will be giving away my age (and the fact I was on the 10 year plan), but when I briefly saw the name "Swilling" on the back of a Jersey early in the game, I thought about an interception that someone made in 1990 and Ken Swilling was fast enough to get across the field and get right beside him to escort him to the endzone. Coach Ross joked on his show the next day that He didn't mind if it looked like he was running like he was carrying a piano, as long as He didn't stop to play it! I also thought about some of the plays Pat Swilling made in the '80's. Man I was fired up!

Then when I saw he probably wasn't blood related to the Swillings I saw play I was disappointed. This kid will get better. Like someone said in earlier posts, it was garbage time and they were way down the depth chart.

Bottom Line: Let's hope TB gets better (for mop up duty against ND.)

I'm just saying we have a number of guys who could play QB. It is conceivable all of those guys would get a look if we lost multiple QBs. Remember when Syracuse or BC or whoever was playing a linebacker against us as their 4th or 5th string QB?

I recall a third string freshman QB being forced into service against ND and doing fairly well.

This thread has gone from "sky is falling" to "not a big deal, we can plug in someone else".

Truth is somewhere in between.

The truth is if JT goes down we are ööööed. We would have been less ööööed with Byerly, but it still wouldn't have been a good situation.

Swilling is from Murray County. I remember Maryland having to put in that Murray County kid at QB against us. We kilt them.

He looked slow. My son commented the same thing.
