Official argue about the old coach thread

He didn't have a QB.

Similar to Michigan & Harbaugh trying to beat Ohio State with Game Mgrs while Ohio State was running NFL Draftees out there are QB.

You high point for the other guy is pissing off Recruits and HCs for 11 straight years, while losing to Duke & UNC and needing a blown call vs Ga Southern to avoid a 2nd Half implosion and a loss to them(2014 Season)

I guess people like to bash CPJ so they won't have to focus on what's happening now. You know, the greatest rebuild in the history of competitive team sports. Hey, we can dream about 4-star recruits. In a few more weeks, this will be over, and we'll be back to fantasy football, again.

It's meta football. Wins only matter if they help us croot better.

Dude!

Please understand this:

The NCAA changed blocking rules, getting low level Recruits to flip from Wofford and Appy State to dive at DLinemen's kneecaps wasn't going to be sustainable, a-backs and WRs had to block differently, we no longer had any advantage vs P5 Teams that set aside 1 practice period the entire year just to be ready for us, we could no longer run jet sweeps vs. friggin' Duke, we had turned into a QB keeper offense, there were no more Wallers or Smelters in the pipeline, HS Coaches wouldn't return CPJ's calls anymore.

At the end that last Bowl loss vs Minnesota & PJ Fleck was as good as it was ever going to be going forward.

The tough talking CPJ saw the writing on the wall and became a quitter, people that Retire from FB Coaching with honor announce it at the beginning of the season , CPJ saw the incoming 'Croots and said I QUIT.

That's the guy you're trying to deify.
I said that people bashing CPJ is an attempt to escape from the current reality. If you consider that deification, you have a problem, not me. I am not a fanboy of getting handed our head on a weekly basis. How many years are you going to be satisfied with going backwards in terms of basic skills? Our DB play is not as good this year as it was last year with the same people. We had no coverage against UVA, and the tackling was poor. We stopped almost no one at the initial contact. We are getting dragged down the field trying to strip the ball. Under CPJ, we had to score a high percentage of the time on offense. Even though we are practicing against basically the same offense we are playing, we are still going to have to score nearly every time we have the ball on offense. Things that should be better, aren't. Enjoy your epic rebuild.

Chan was given less of a chance than CPJ. CPJ's saving grace, what endeared him to certain fans who wanted to make him coach for life, was beating UGAg in 2008 and winning the ACC in 2009, despite being embarrassed by UGAg in 2009. Justin Thomas came along and was a special player for us who thankfully didn't decide to play DB for Alabama.
Chan was given 7 years to beat UGA. He never did.

DJ Jazzy Geoff ain’t sniffing either of those heights.

So, again, that’s why this thread exists. To allow fans like you to have a safe space to rage about your feelings on the present.

Simple:

Please tell us based on wins & losses where we would be right now if CPJ had not quit, and he continued on his same Recruiting trend and Yates was our Starter at QB running the Triple with the new blocking rules (I penciled in Yates as the starter because CPJ offered him before he quit).

Tell us all where would be if CPJ had stayed and was in year 14?

Yes, winning a conference title and beating your rival once will generally give you more leeway than doing neither of those things.

I think we’d be about .500 and working towards something special with the right QB. Maybe Yates would’ve been that guy. Probably not.

Probably 3-4 with people doubting the coaching staff's ability.

Based on CPJ history of sticking with the starting QB, we would probably have super senior Oliver at QB. Wins over NIU, KSU, Clemson, and Duke. Losses to Pitt, UVa, and UNC. Our offense would probably look like Army’s and our defense would look like Army’s. Everyone would be disappointed we were fading in the coastal. We would close out the season 7-5 or 6-6 with blowout losses to ND and uga.
The fanbase would be clamoring for Yates and lamenting that off the field problems tanked Graham’s career.

following up that conference title (but not beating the mutts or uga that year) with our first losing season since B*** L**** really sums up the PJ Era nicely. Besides not-beating-mutts-when-we-should've, PJ's biggest failure was not maintaining program momentum. 2010 & 2015 were both poor seasons after great ones.

Yeah. After 2014 it felt like we were entering a new golden age of Tech football. Boy did that change quickly.

You are delusional if you think we beat Clemson this year had CPJ stayed, we likely don't beat Duke either because we never jump out to a lead because we don't throw swing passes like that with CPJ and we don't have Gibbs playing RB.

With the Portal and not having to sit out due to CV19-- if CPJ stays maybe the entire BBack depth chart transfers out of GT.

We'd be 2 - 5 at this point and maybe 1-6 , I'm not sure if CPJ is still here that NIL don't treat us like MTSU did.
