Candidates For New Head Coach

You may be right but to achieve long term success, I think GT made the right move it’s still to be seen if it was the right man or not. I have a good friend who was a punter at GT and we talked about when CGC was hired. My comment to him was this is going to be about as painful a transition as you could imagine and it will all focus around recruiting. GT offense had become a novelty. It was a nuisance for teams to prepare for but after a few years seeing it the novelty wore off and teams were able to diagnose it better and GT was left with an offense that top recruits weren’t going to play for. CGC either underestimated the task or over estimated his abilities. Just my .02 and that’s about all it’s worth.
It wasn’t just a novelty. We COULDNT RUN IT ANY MORE!!! We weren’t getting players good enough.

Literally 3 returning players worth a flip and nobody recruited to replace the others. .
OK so your “we weren’t winning” argument was blown up and you just make some dumb statement about recruiting. Despite it being pretty much the same if not slightly improving toward the tail end of PJ’s career.

No. Sorry. I didn’t say we weren’t winning. I said we weren’t going to win.

And you’re bragging we were literally one win away from playing in the ACC title game?

We would have played a team who beat us by 4 touchdowns earlier that year. Are you sure you want to brag about that?

That’s exactly the point I’m trying to make. Correct me if I’m wrong but outside of the school itself eventually what was the draw for top HS football players to come to Tech and play and develop in that offensive scheme? It wasn’t a great stepping stone to the NFL.

Wake is paying their assistants and HC more than we are. You can’t hire a staff away for less than they currently make.
I see over and over again we don't have money. The reason we don't have money is inept and foolish hiring decisions, starting with loser athletic directors. However, if that is the case and is reality, we either accept current circumstances or drop down to a lower conference like the AAC or Sun Belt, but he reality is we may not fare any better there. No money means you either get your ass beat or drop out, but stop wishing and hoping. Wake arguably has less funds than Ga Tech sitting in Atlanta and with tradition, but you would never know it. How did they get there and we get here?

Their fan base isn’t a bunch of little bitches who stay home?

I have the feeling CGC doesn't give a rip about our fan base. Also think his only chance at long term survival is to fire both cordinators.
Based on what? What evidence do you have that CGC doesn’t care about the fans?

because he gets defensive very easily under questioning about critics/fan base and the tends to retreat to "the players in that locker room" kind of speak.

if he was winning this would not matter as much if it all. like everything else.

he may really care but his PR presentation needs some work.

I think we have two more years of terrible football. Then CGC will be thanked for his services and shown the door. The 3O stigma will be gone and we will find a real coach. Just hang in their fellas and lower your expectations for the next couple of years.

I can't believe we have fans that would rather have 3 wins with this offense that go bowling with the 3/o
Based on TRENDS, with the way we were Recruiting combined with NCAA Rules changes WRT Blocking & Safety, there's no guarantee that we would've been bowling these 3 years.

Remember:

  1. No Gibbs
  2. No McGowan
  3. No Sims
  4. No Fr WRs
  5. No incoming portal Guys
  6. We might have lost a lot of outgoing Portal Guys that might want to enhance their NFL Chances- no sitting out due to CV19
  7. No Ivey
  8. No Biggers
  9. No Makius Scott
The smug assumption that GT FB would've been like the first 6 yrs of CPJ rather than what we looked like vs Minnesota is overly optimistic to say the least

I do admit that we would win more with the Teflon Option, but not a lot more, instead of 3 win seasons, my guess is that CPJ would've turned in 5 win seasons, and the losses would've been closer due to burning clock while we were losing which is something he did often.

Basically, the Program would be in the same place with much worse Recruiting.

Can you imagine the response from Recruits and HS Coaches id CPJ were on his 14th yr headed into yr 15?

The next HC and us Fans are going to benefit from the thankless work that CGC is doing as a Recruiter to rebuild our Rep Statewide.

Just treat Tech football as a drinking game. It's money down! Take a shot. Post game presser CGC telling us how much he loves those guys in the locker room after a loss? Take a drink.
