Candidates For New Head Coach

Granted 3/o coaches can’t recruit, they can still coach the guys they get, and they still breed success. Especially Monken and Bohan. KSU is sitting at 8-1… 7 wins in a row.

Only 1.6% of college football players get a sniff of the NFL. It is not a realistic expectation for the vast majority of any college football team.
Unfortunately most of that small percentage are going to SEC schools. The ACC sucks, we are riding off the fumes of Clemson of being a legit power 5(4,) conference. It speaks volumes that Wake freaking Forrest was our top ranked undefeated team until recently. It sucks for Tech fans because we work and live in the south east with fans of the month breathing SEC teams.

No one in the south east gives a crap about ACC football and we wouldn't either if we weren't associated with it.

What are the service academies revenue? My guess is any one of them would kick our ass. While down there, what is Cincinnati's revenue, BYU, or any number of schools outside the Power 5 that would kick our ass. I guess I should feel better, Northern Illinois is actually having a winning season in the MAC, so maybe JJacket and others can say we are making progress and showing improvement.
As a Tech Grad you should be smart enough to understand Revenue vs Competition, Cincy's revenue is great for their level of competition, beating just one tough team ND, doesn't change the overall difficulty of their sked.

If Teams like Cincy played 8 to 10 P5 Games each year, the physicality would eventually expose them.

None of the Service Academies would beat us this year, our poor OL would be right at home competing vs guys on their level and then guys like Gibbs and Mason would run for 300yds apiece.

That stat is very flawed and is crap put out by the NCAA to serve their selfish needs.

I'll explain later.....

At least HS coaches will consider talking to us about their high level guys now. They see a path to the NFL from our program and the offer lists of our recruits speak to them being higher level prospects. The question I have considering the results, is how many of those offers were commitable and how many guys do we have now that better programs backed off for one reason or the other?

UMass just fired their coach less than three years in. UMass must have higher expectations than Tech and uncovered some money somewhere.

I can't believe we have fans that would rather have 3 wins with this offense that go bowling with the 3/o
There’s the problem. The 3O fans act as if we would magically be bowl eligible each year if we only ran the 3O. First, the 3O is what broke our bowl streak. Second, the 3O is responsible for a bad roster that continues to resonate. The only thing magical that will happen if you switch to 3O is that these few great players you are depending on to run the 3O (looking at Gibbs) will leave. Third, blocking rules changed since the 3O was last magical.

Thats not to defend the current clown show because they clearly aren’t coaching players to potential. There are significant defects to the 3O though and I doubt we or anyone else will go back to it in a form as pure as CPJ. At most you will see a Friedgen type system.

I can't say exactly what would happen, but I'm looking at what we traded and the quantity of posters who won't admit it was a terrible trade.

Sure, cpj lost the bowl streak but he also broke the UGA streak and made us competitive with them most years. I think that's far more important than having a down year or 2.

The 3O wasn’t what broke our bowl streak, it was the fact that literally everyone was injured. If you go back to 2015, you’ll see that every loss except I think two of them were within 7 points and most of those games we lost on the last drives by the opponents. That’s why CPJ said after the FSU game “we finally had one go our way”

Sounds something like this year.

Yeah, well missing bowl eligibility hadn’t happened in something more 25 years when it finally did. With the option. That great equalizer.
We don’t have near the injuries that we had in 2015, like at all. The option also took us to the ACC championship twice and the orange bowl. Our first ACC championship win in 10 years.

Edit: Also we’re playing in a very down ACC, that is just fighting to see who’s the worst team.

GOL won 3iar against UGAg, one in blowout fashion, and we got ripped off in 97, which would have made it 4iar. Maybe we should be aiming more for GOL and less for CPJ, especially since GOL could recruit better athletes across the board

I would love another GOL, but who do we have that would be anywhere near his level? Also, one of the main things I loved about CPJ is that UGAg had to take one whole day out of each week just to work on defending the option. We were in their heads, but now they can literally send out their third stringers and still wipe the floor with us.
