Candidates For New Head Coach

I would love another GOL, but who do we have that would be anywhere near his level? Also, one of the main things I loved about CPJ is that UGAg had to take one whole day out of each week just to work on defending the option. We were in their heads, but now they can literally send out their third stringers and still wipe the floor with us.
They whittled that down to a whole day the week of our game. Essentially, DT overmatch center/guard, try to take ball during mesh. Tackle BB and QB, DE's clean up.

Lol they had to do it the whole week during our game and 1 day each week of camp, other games, etc. Yeah, it’s really that simple isn’t it, just do better than the guy across from you and you stop it. Not like we won 3 times AT UGA because it’s that simple.

We won 3iar against them when GOL was here, almost 4. I prefer that to be our goal, not 3 in 11 years

Also that’s not even how the blocking scheme works in midline at all. Center and guard play side double team the Nose and then the gaurd works up to the mike linebacker. The tackle wraps around the d end wraps around to the Sam linebacker. D End is the read key, so he has to make a choice on the handoff. Outside the safety is the pitch key, he has to make a choice. If everything is run right, it’s 5 yards every play.

Again, who’s the GOL you’re thinking of? Or do we just pluck a hair off his head so we can just create a clone of him like in the movies.

Except, we had wide spreads so their DL just waltzed past our OL to the mesh. Why scheme when your players line up physically superior? Our tackles couldn't slow their DE's for öööö so the entire option got blown up unless your QB could mesh, pull, and pitch within a second. We weren't getting to the outside on UGAg or Clemson anymore

GOL, Collins has worked with him. He knows what GT can be. That we can recruit against UGAg and we can line up and beat their ass. CPJ sold us on "you can't recruit against them" and got the job. We were recruiting well against them. We flushed that for a coach more interested in running his scheme and believing his D2 talent could just outscheme them.
We sacrificed our recruiting. High water mark was Chan's last classes since GOL. Collins can get us back there.

Wide spreads are good for midline because it spreads the d line even further, because if they just clog the middle, they just open speed options and half back pitches all day. And yeah, we weren’t trying to slow their d ends, again that’s the point of midline. And the fact that you said “ the entire option got blown up unless your QB could mesh, pull, and pitch within a second” is literally the point of being a TO QB… Maybe not the pitch, but that’s because we weren’t passing enough, so they stacked the box with 8 or 9 guys, so it’s easy to defend on that.

Just because he worked with him, doesn’t mean he is him. Ever seen Star Wars before? Anakin was Obi WAN’s apprentice; however, the only time he could ever beat him was when Obi Wan literally gave up as a distraction. Just because we couldn’t recruit doesn’t mean we still didn’t make great players. Texas has always been a powerhouse in recruiting, but has been about where we were when we had CPJ in terms of success. CPJ could get the guys and form them into great players. Waller was very underrecruited and became a beast. Same with Justin Thomas.

The biggest problem is that Miami showed everyone years ago vs Nebraska how to defend the option. Have vastly superior athletes on defense. If you haven’t noticed, that’s what everyone around us was spending their energy on - recruiting. Not just recruiting the old uga teams of the 90s and early 2000s of solid football players, but nationally elite players. Those guys are all coming to play for our main rivals now. The option was not going to be competitive against the current Clemson’s and uga’s. We don’t have to guess about this either - we saw it with our own eyes. Those guys weren’t just beating us, they were beating the brakes off us.

Sure, you can get as many freak athletes as you want, but how many of those are in America? Alabama, Clemson, and UGA had them. Ohio State had some. Who else?

You missed the part about physically superior athletes. I don't care how wide the spreads are, Clemson and UGAg, even Duke, just waltzed through.

It’s more like I said before, we never passed out of the option. It’s easy to waltz right in when you have 9 guys in the box.

FSU when they aren’t dealing with coaching turmoil. Miami has had them too. We see the way it’s going with this laser focused recruiting - everyone except for us was in that game.

FSU hasn’t had them since they had Jimbo. Miami hasn’t had them since the early 2000s

Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, but early 2000s aren’t that long ago and nor was Jimbo at FSU (he was there when we last went to orange bowl). Either of those two teams resolve their coaching issues, and they will be back in the game quickly. We either recruit and play with the big boys in the big boy game, or we don’t and we go play with State and Southern.

Early 2000s we’re a solid 10-20 years ago. Most of those guys that were beasts at Miami are already out of the NFL, or on their last couple years there. Sure Jimbo was there as late as 2017 I believe, but that means that even the last of his recruits are gone. And the thing is with us, we have recruited and we have shown we can’t coach them. The 3O was literally made for people with out a good offensive line, which is exactly what we are.

Unc. Also FSU was far from top 10 by end of season. A paper Tiger

FSU ended the regular season 10-2, ranked 9. Only loses were to GT and #3 Clemson. Then lost to #14 Houston in a bowl finishing #14.

If 2015 was ‘far’ from the top 10 at 14, then #21 (when we played them) UNC was ‘far, far’ from #14.

So, the garbage 2015 three win season had a win over a team ranked in the top 15.
