Candidates For New Head Coach

As an added note, these are scheduled years in advance but whoever thought is was a good idea to schedule games like Central Fla and Ole Miss needs to a talking to.
You mean the UCF team that’s lost every game to teams with winning records? You’re right, we’ve got a losing record so we’re probably an easy win for them. Nobody expected us to completely crap the bed like we have. You’d have thought a decent coaching staff could have taken a 7-6 team and kept us respectable, but we should have have the foresight to realize we were going to destroy our program in order to save it.

It feels like I'm on the third season of an HGTV show and they're still in the demolition phase.

IMO the Chan Gailey Model might not have won over the Fans, but I think copying what Chan did will work in 2021 & beyond and give us the best chance at 10 win seasons and making the ACC-CG.

Except for QB we were closer to UGA, Miami (back in early 00s when they were loaded), ND, Auburn, etc, IMO we had every position group moderately strong except for QB, IMO our Money Guys behind the scenes panicked and went Teflon Option instead of giving Chan a chance to play his 4* QB Recruits (the other Guys , not Nesbitt)
Yeah, we were closer to UGAG then. Todays version of UGAG is a different animal

This thread should be changed to candidates for OC and DC who can step in as interim coach and be our next O’Leary after Collins gets fired in ‘22 or ‘23

Yep, UGAg, unfortunately for us, is a level above the rest of college football. Keep resting y'all's hopes on Alabama somehow beating them. Most likely, Bama gets beaten by several TD's. I see nobody that has a chance of the CFP stopping them

Chan's only mistake was not finding a QB soon enough, sad that our Money Guys behind the scenes were so short sighted and refused to give him more time.

Guy had like 7 seasons. He didn’t bother recruiting those type of players you mentioned until Giff Smith (and Collins to an extent) pressed him in year 6. And you remember that Collins bolted right after signing day, right?

Revisionist history to think that Channy would have magically turned things around. 2006 was awful the way that ended. Good man, not a very good coach.

I bet that CPJ could take this team to a bowl game in his first season should he return. No cap.

CGC is not a complete idiot. If your staff is really dumb & incompetent, they won’t replace you with them. Why do you think he hired them? It wasn’t because they were superstars. Goober couldn’t even get a chance in P5 football 30 years into his career. You’d think that was a huge red flag, but no, it was a huge selling point to CGC. Job security.

They didn’t panic. They fired him for not beating the rival. Kinda like UGA did to Donnan.

Chan inherited a team that had 13 players flunk off season 1

You're way off base. This isn't about loving the 3-O or about wanting Monken. All I'm saying telling you is why we're stuck with what we have, and if we wanted to win what it was going to take if the fan base collectively wants a new HC.

Monken would have been the status quo with less assholery and maybe better recruiting. You don't have to agree but I think you'll be hard pressed to convince anybody that Monken would have a lower number in the W column at this point.
Or a higher number than I think we'll have two years from now.

I just can't believe anyone really wants Monken as our HC. We have fans who just think we should be damn Army or Navy or Kennesaw State and that is good enough

I have seen it suggested that even Whisenhunt turned us down flat, actually, and only talked to TStan as a courtesy. It makes sense that up and coming coaches wouldn't want to go to a place to try and flip a roster, knowing that fans have come to expect bowl games at a minimum. Collins can take the hits because he has this unshakeable faith in the power of positive thinking.

I do think we will be in a much better position in a year or two, if a change needs to be made. We'll have a talented roster and an improved recruiting reputation. People don't realize how far we had fallen in industry circles. The duct taped 7 win seasons covered it up.
I hope you’re right, but I don’t think we will be in a much better position in a year or two. If you look at what happened at Tennessee, it became so obvious that their program was such a dumpster fire that even their really good alumni players started sending their sons to other programs. I don’t think Collins is going to be able to continue to recruit. I think you may see a lot of players bolting to the transport portal too. I hope not. But things just aren’t looking good at all.

this is not unique at Georgia Tech. Florida State is having a really tough go of it too. It is much, much, much easier to recruit and we’re at Florida State than Georgia Tech.

I have no idea where your extreme optimism comes from. To bank a win against Ole Miss and UCF and Pitt comes from. With this staff, nothing is ever a sure win. They've managed to take L's from a bottom feeding FCS team, Citadel, and a not very good MAC team, Northern Illinois. They've simply been outcoached by Virginia Tech and UVa. Until we see changes I see nothing much will change. Clemson will fix themselves, Georgia needs no comment and like this year, Duke is a 50/50 roll of the dice.

Wait? We lost to Citadel?

and Northern Illinois has played in Orange Bowls more recently than most of our ACC opponents. We should have beaten them, no doubt. We were a foot down from winning or, if the two point conversion were called incomplete, winning when it wouldn't have been overturned that way either.

Well I hope you're right.

You're still not on point. Nobody here would turn down being top ranked on a regular basis. Coach and scheme be damned. You seem to be one of those guys who wants to build a dynasty without dynasty resources and that just doesn't happen.

What is realistic, is that we can be plenty competitive year in and out with the occasional run and win in the playoffs with what we have.

Bowling should be normal, pummeling FCS schools should be normal, beating the inbreds up the road should be expected again. We always want more but there is only a certain threshold you can hit without selling out and lowering the standards which is exactly what the factories do.

Tech is not that and I sure as hell don't want to be that either. So we have to up the competition within these confines. As I said before, this isn't currently what is being delivered.

I’m telling you…..year 5 Covid returns which keeps Clemson out of the Acc championship….we win that and then get blasted by Utah State in a bowl game. Contract extension

Well I hope you're right.

Everyone agrees with all that.

I dont want any of them for HC, I do want our HC gone.

You may be right but to achieve long term success, I think GT made the right move it’s still to be seen if it was the right man or not. I have a good friend who was a punter at GT and we talked about when CGC was hired. My comment to him was this is going to be about as painful a transition as you could imagine and it will all focus around recruiting. GT offense had become a novelty. It was a nuisance for teams to prepare for but after a few years seeing it the novelty wore off and teams were able to diagnose it better and GT was left with an offense that top recruits weren’t going to play for. CGC either underestimated the task or over estimated his abilities. Just my .02 and that’s about all it’s worth.
