Candidates For New Head Coach

Qua Searcy, Clinton Lynch and Brad Stewart are all that I can find who had significant offensive contributions that did not return in 2019, this excludes lineman. A significant portion of our contributing RB's, WR's and most of the defense in 2021 are still players that he inherited. I just don't see how you align the narrative that we had fallen to FCS level talent towards the end of Johnson's time here yet still won 7 games AND Collins has rapidly and significantly increased that FCS level talent but can't win more than 3 games and still plays a significant amount of the FCS talent that he inherited. Some of that might be true but I don't see how all of it is.

So, just about all our passing/recieving and probably > half our rushing production. I'd have to go back and look for the exact number, but I am pretty sure our returning production for 2019 was among the worst in the country. Worse than 100th I am pretty sure.

Oliver and Mason both started games toward the end of the year and they both returned.

Mason? Hell, I got old timers disease. I don't remember that.
Jordan Mason and Jerry Howard shared the bback load after Benson got hurt early in the year (USF I think?). Mason finished 2018 with 659 yards rushing and Howard with 564.

Hell, I missed the RB part.

Serious question here if this is true then how did we go 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the ACC during CPJ’s last year if the talent was that bad ? CPJ’s final 3 seasons we won 9, 5, and 7 games.
The same reason Navy or Army has winning records despite the worst talent and size in all of FBS. The triple option is the great equalizer and allows you to slow the game down, eat the clock to limit possessions, and beat teams by being more efficient on offense with the limited possessions. If every team ran this offense, then it would lose much of its effectiveness because teams would practice against it daily and play against it weekly. You also have to have a coach that knows the nuances of the offense like CPJ to make the subtle in game adjustments to counter whatever the defense came up with that week. Good luck ever fielding a strong defense too. It's outscore them or bust.

I love to watch the TO offense but not at my school. It turns your program into a service academy where only subpar athletes or lineman are willing to play in it. Nobody offensive players want to play in the offense and no defensive players want to practice against it. We have gotten highly recruited athletes to come here but only as a QB instead of switching to the skill positions which gave them the high rating. Even our one OL that went on the NFL is several deviations below the average NFL OL height at 6'1" to the point he is an NFL oddity. You are kidding yourself if you think even the best non-triple option coach could've come in here and won with the roster that he would've inherited after CPJ. The linemen alone didnt have the proper length for standard pass pro. No technique taught could've compensated for this.

Oliver was never going to be a realistic option for the new offense at QB. Mason was a nice piece to have back, but again, objectively, our returning production was among the worst.

So, you made me look it up. Here's Bill Connely's take in 2019:

119th out of 130 FBS teams. And that's with a lot of that production no longer even applicable in the new offense AND completely changing blocking schemes.

We should still be embarrassed by our performance against NIU.

If people can still cry about Gardner-Webb, which we won, we can damn sure cry about losing to NIU to kick off “WIN21.”

We are embarrassed by it. I’m just not going to use it as an excuse to be miserable.

I’m no more miserable than I’ve been for the last several years. Maybe less, which is probably a bad sign that apathy is encroaching.

Who is crying about Gardner-Webb?

Whatever you do, on your way home do NOT drive into a bridge abutment at highway speed after removing your seatbelt. Do not do it.

That game from 2008 still comes up on the reg when people want to list the sins of the previous regime, along with MTSU, Kansas State, etc.

Looks like two of the most recent mentions were you on September 9th and you on September 19th.

119th in returning production and a defense that was 111th in points per play.

I would’ve retired too.

I said who was crying about it? We discuss football here. If you are gonna discuss CPJ like every game was the 2014 Orange Bowl then the lesser games get pointed out too.

So when CGC claimed "greatest transition ever", he wasn't being a dishonest used car salesman?

LOL- just read that the only FBS team that gives up more passing yards per completion than GT is UMass..
Too bad Helton is gone,Maybe we can get Justin Fuente in the offseason.
He may be a dead man walking as he leads the ACC in "CoachesHotSeat" at #8
check out the crew at 16-19 .. .. Collins,Cutliffe,Norvell,Diaz

Just in the event anyone missed it, Kent State 52 - Northern Illinois 47.
The year we went HAM in the Orange Bowl against MSU, we pulled a win against GSU straight out of our asses. Early season blues and And the fact we just aren't a good team this year can lead to bad results. We lost to NIU. We played like öööö. NIU sucks donkey balls. It is what it is.
