Coach O'Leary sighting

So you're telling me that when you hire a new employee you don't support him/her until they do something good? That's what you said about coaches. So to follow through with my earlier questions I'll assume then that you were anti-Ross until he started to win. You already said you didn't like Curry. So we're closing in here. You like who you like no matter what the product on the field. At least that's my perception of what you've said.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">That is EXACTLY what she said. That is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If there was a Graemlin for me shooting myself right now, I would put it right here.

We are all that much dumber for having listened to her garbage.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">NCJ: I did answer all these questionS - go back and read. I'll let you find it because IT'S THERE! I even answered these SAME QUESTIONS MONTHS AGO AND HERE WE GO AGAIN! Reading is only good for those who post their answers and not the rebuttals - is that it?

You support until you see things that are not happening, not being done, not coming out right, not producing, not relating, not functioning, not getting it - kind of like coaching! As time progresses forward the writing is on the wall that you have someone good for the job and the company, or you don't. The daily evals and those that come in are part of the process for your continued employment! This is not hard to fathom.

As time passes and you see things I documented above - support wanes, maybe to the point depending on the situation of being in a trial mode and having to meet objectives to continue on. If support is to continue - you have to continue doing the right things in your position to keep it - simple isn't it? It stands for my job, my CFO, CDO, Acct Mgr - you name it.

Employees are constantly evaluated by their managers, supervisors, direct reports - 90 days, a year. That's what I know and do. Now, if those evals don't come out like the standards of performance as set forth by the company for any particular job function - you either going to get another opportunity based on some things that were good and some that were not; or, you were so incapable you're gone. Isn't that the same here - Chan has another year and we will all see.

But that one year passed has him on the ropes because his evaluation by me was not outstanding. He has to get better and produce a better product and management of his dept.

BOR missed it too! My, my, my!

Re: Coach O\'Leary sighting

MSTA, if you take everyone in this thread who has responded to a post of yours, you and me included.... it would seem that the overall opinion would be you have no damn clue.

In fact, everyone here has said that in some way or another about you. It's funny that this happens almost ALL the time when you post on this board, yet you refuse to see your own shortcomings.

Even the people who don;t like Chan won't completely side with you because they see the serious flaws in your arguements.

But alas... the king (or the queen in this matter) hath no clothes. He thought he had a royal suit, cape and crown... but he was naked.

I don't expect you to understand that... it's only a childrens story.

Re: Coach O\'Leary sighting

You've asked me to read carefully - I inturn will do the same - the answers are all there! I supported Chan until the going got tough and then I hoped we would win because I lost confidence in the product he presented - it's obvious his OWN PLAYERS DID!

YOUR shortcomings were just said by yourself - you believe there should be sides? I didn't come here to have a team of my own - sides is for kids! My goodness!

And do you feel the same about Bobby Cremins or Bill Curry? You GOL haters disgust me. That man gave blood and sweated his behind off and did more than for GT than Bill Curry ever did. We would be lucky one day entice GOL back as A.D.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Uh, Cremins didn't abandon GT, and understand there are still plenty of negative feelings toward Curry for leaving for "greener pastures."

Re: Coach O\'Leary sighting

BOR: Obviously you're still childish in your ways - did you come on to Stingtalk to establish sides? We use to do that as kids!

I don't come here to form my team and surround myself with my team or my side - the last I saw it's about individuals posting opinions, NOT SIDE UP!

Am I concerned about those who don't agree with me, you must have your head in the sand - am I affected by you saying all those are on one side and I'm standing along all by myself on the other and I'm bothered - grow up! Maturity is not rampant in you life - THAT IS OBVIOUS!

Since this thread has reached three pages and 100+ replies, could we maybe have the original subject line edited so it is spelled correctly? Please? Siting should be sighting

Re: Coach O\'Leary sighting

So if I get this now.

1) you supported Curry until he started to lose. Then decided he couldn't coach and never supported him again. I guess 9 wins in 85 didn't change your mind?
2) You supported Ross until he started to lose, then when he started to win you changed your mind.
3) You haven't mentioned Lewis, but I assume you must have supported him until he started to lose.
3) You supported George until he started to lose then when he started to win you changed your mind.
4) You supported Chan until he lost some games you thought he shouldn't have. But you have now given up on him. But you do hold out hope that you will change your mind if he starts to win.

Did I get that right? I'm a little different. I liked Curry from the first time I met him. I don't think he was a great coach by any means, but nobody goes 9-2 at Tech if they can't coach. Ross was great hire IMO but he wasted his first 2 years. We should never have been that bad. I thought Lewis was a mistake from the start. Maybe from seeing him up close at ECU. I hoped I was wrong but wasn't. I was worried about O'Leary but felt it had to be better than Lewis. I really felt we should have hired Fridge if we were going to hire one of Ross' old assistants. Not saying I'm a genious and knew how good he would be, just always liked him better.

That brings us to Chan. I was surprised by the hire. He's not my ideal candidate but I am impressed by his football knowledge. I was disappointed numerous times last year but also felt we had the most screwy season with injuries and illness I've seen since about 1975. Add to that the backlash from resume gate that we started with and I'm not surprised we underperformed. I thought he made a mistake keeping any of the old staff. Coaches need their own team in place IMO, nothing against any particular coach. BOB's inexperience hurt, not in playcalling, but in coaching QBs especially inexperienced ones (see the recent Bilbo article for more). We had some very good games, and some really lousy ones.

I guess the difference in me and you is you have a very short fuse and reserve the right to change your mind back and forth. I don't. When I decide I've pretty much decided. But I take the time to make sure why I feel the way I do. I don't know enough about Gailey yet to make a judgement. And don't trot out the HR stuff again. I have been hiring and firing for 24 years, as well as negotiating contracts face to face. I know a thing or two about reading people myself.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">NC, why even bother? MSTA does not live in a rational realm of existence. Has no rational thought process. And certainly cannot sustain a point long enough for someone to grasp any sort of understanding from it.
